Default tuning P28 automatic obd 1 ecu?

A friend of mine is paralyzed from the waist down and has to use hand controls, so with that being the case he must drive an automatic.

So what is the deal with not being able to tune automatic obd1 p28 ecu's?

Is it difficult or impossible to tune an p28 automatic ecu?

Is the demand not big enough for the tuning companies to even try and figure out how to tune the p28 automatic ecu?

Pic of him working on his car.
It's running now.

You can tune them just like the manual versions. You just can't alter shift points or anything else related to the transmission itself.
