ok so i originally thought fuel pump but after reading alot more and a few responses telling me it might be my dizzy i am looking into it. how do i tell if my dizzy is going bad.
ok my car will ocationally lose all power like im not getting fuel. but from reading and now that i think about it no spark would mean it wouldnt light the gas so basically the same thing. also it smells like it is running rich alot. also it feels sluggish kinda. not too bad but its sluggish enough i can notice it. it has been doing this for a few weeks now and its getting more prevalent in when it happens.
Also if my dizzy is bad what dizzys can i use? its the Sohc ZC Vtec i know i can use the z6 but what others can i use(being jdm zc my honda dealership just tells me they cant help me)? also i have seen some that say you can use all obd1 dizzys just some will have one of the bolt holes that wont line up but will still work fine with only 2 of the 3 bolts.

Measure the coil resistance inside the dizzy cap before you do anything, have you replaced your cap, rotors and spark plugs? One symptom of a bad a dizzy is when it doesn't turn freely by hand when unbolted from the head that means a locked up bearing. Some stores may be able to test the ignition module inside the dizzy.

alright. then when i take it off i take the cap off and what to i look for to see if things are going bad, i have seen somewhere if it looks burnt. just want to check before i take my car apart. i am doing everything in a school parking lot so i cant just leave my hood up or anything so i want to try to get most done in a day. or should i just take the dizzy and all the wires down to my dorm with me and just look at everything in there?

ok dizzy cap is bad. every other time i have been looking under my hood it has been with a phone light and at night. i havent had time between work and school. but today i just looked at it and the back bottom screw hole is cracked causing the back part of the cap to have a small gap between it and the rest of the dizzy. im hoping that nothing else inside is bad so i am going to replace cap and see what inside when i do

no codes but i think it is because one of the plastic tabs on the dizzy cap is broken and is separating the cap from the rest of the dizzy. its maybe a 1/16 gap on that side. also no idea on the cap and rotors. i have an extra cap at my house so i am having my parents mail it up to me at school. i will try this first. if i take the cap off and the rotors are bad also i will just wait to put my cap on and buy rotors. also will be changing plugs just to be on a safe side since i have an extra set

ya i know. i plan on it. i just dont want to spend the 30 on a new cap when i have one at home, so im going to replace that first and if the rotors are bad inside then i will replace them after the cap. but i will go with whats free first
