ok i replaced me transmission a few weeks ago and when i dropped my old one i forgot to take out the speedo cable and then when i let the trans down it caught and yanked out. i think i messed up the tip since now my speedo doesnt work and im getting code 17 (obd1). so im 95% sure this is my problem. but just checking bacause i have seen on other threads saying to check it because it could be the sender in the cluster that is bad
Working? See if you MPH increase as you drive or if your mph gauge shakes around 20-35 mph and then "Catches" back up
Broken? Take the cable out of the tranny, pull on the cable, if half of it pulls out, but it's still connected to the gauge...
Sender? Swap out the cluster, if it works with no CEL, then it was the sender.

I did this just a few weeks ago myself, plug stayed connected to the back side of the cluster but the cable came out when I dropped my transmission. Simple fix, put it back. Hope yours is as easy of a fix.

ok i think its the cable. i looked at it and i think then end part is bend slightly and that would make sense for why it seems like it wouldnt go into the trans far enough. and my cluster when i first started after i swaped trans would bounce up to 5 or 10 mph sometimes then just go back to zero. i know it was kinda a noob question but just wanted to get a few second opinions before i replaced it. and it runs without a code untill i start coasting in gear. does this sound weird to anyone but me?

Won't go into gear cuz of the speedo cable? Did u install the clip back on so that the cable goes in only so far?

i didnt even notice a clip when i took it out. so that could be my problem. is there any way to test my cable to see if its just the clip or if my cable is actually broken.

there is no clip i know that the cable is not in the transmission. i am just looking to see if there is any way to see if the cable still works without that clip to put it in the trans.
yeah a cordless drill spin it and have someone watch your speedo ... i mean seriously its a f*cking cable that spins in a sleeve how hard is that to diagnose a bad one? both ends are easily accessible with less than basic hand tools .... you just wasted time you could've spent on something productive
