I just bought my first Honda, a 1995 Accord Coupe 2.2 VTEC. I want to remove and clean the IACV in hopes of fixing this idle revving issue.

I understand the process thanks to an excellent write-up already posted on H-T. The question is this, would it be easier to remove the intake before removing the IACV?

If you have all of the gaskets and the time to remove the full intake go for it. You can fully clean the throttle body ports, EGR ports, fuel injectors and intake manifold more thoroughly if it is removed.

However, if all you want to do is clean the IAC valve itself, removing the intake would not be easier.

 

Thank you Ghost. That was the opinion I was looking for and also the conclusion I was coming to as I was looking at it longer. I think I'll stick to the IACV itself, as I already cleaned out the EGR ports and I'm not interested in replacing the gaskets at the moment.

Thank you both Frankenstien and Ghost! I got if off with the help of the proper 12mm wrench. It sure was gummed up bad the spring wasn't moving at all. The idle revving is better but not gone altogether. I guess the next stop is the Fast Idle Thermo Valve. Thanks to Ghost, I now know exactly where to look for that.
