do i need to reinstall this piece when i install my coilovers?

 

thats the dust cover and its not going to fit with coilovers

 

Its not? So wouldnt that mess up your shocks then?

no you dont need that piece any more.

I cut the bottom part and put like 2 inch of top part back on.

 

I mean its a possibility, but i even called skunk 2 when i got my coilovers 2 years ago and they said dont worry about it, my cars a a 2' maybe a 2.25 in drop and i havent had any problems only blew 1 shock out because i was going over a bay bridge in maryland at like 80mph and slammed hardcore at the end.

You should actually keep part of the dust cover. Depends on the kit, but I'd suggest you use a dremel and cut about 1 and 1/2 inches down from the top so there is just a little bit, like a hat. This way if the suspension ever expands all the way, which is unlikely, the spring will find it's way back in place instead of getting crooked. That's just my suggestion, but certainly keep a portion of the bump stop.

If you look at the picture you took I'd cut a bit above where the scratches can be seen. A hack saw could work to.

i drive my ride in the winter, too... no prob. so far...
