Just about to buy an 01 Lude SH, please help a new member with some questions!
Hi folks, This is my first post and I am about to buy a Blue 5 speed 2001 Prelude SH with 28,000 miles on the vehicle. I have tentativley agreed on a price of $17,900(Hope its a good price)with the dealership. I plan on doing some stealth mods to the vehicle and was hoping some knowledgeable folks on the forum would be willing to take the time to help me out.
1. I want to get a Jackson SUpercharger kit along with a new header and exhaust to up the performance just a bit. Probably wont do anything else than this, unless other people can inform me of some other cheap modifications without messing with the engines internals etc.
2. I want to drop the car possibly about 1.5 inches front and rear. But have heard that the SH needs special springs?? Also heard that getting shocks for this car is hard too?? I am familiar with the SPC camber kits for front and rear and will be getting the ones rated for drops up to 1.5 inches. But more info would be appreciated on the spring shock situation on this car.
3. Will be getting a Neuspeed short throw shift kit.
4. Will be putting new rubber on the stock wheels
5. And also considering doing the usual upper strut front tie bar, rear tie bar and upgraded front and rear sway bar. But again would like a good understanding of what can be achieved with this car.
Any links to places with thorough info on this car would be most appreciated too.
thanx!

1) if you get a JRSC, go with an intake (AEM), a header, and a good exhaust system that is built for forced induction applications. It would be dumb to get a supercharger, then cork up the engine with an improper exhaust. Apex-i N1 exaust is a nice 3" pipe for forced induction.
2) I wouldn't say there are special springs....but there are unconfirmed (no hard facts or numbers that I've seen) that the springs and shocks on the SH are different than the base model in terms of spring perch placement......fitment is the same, so for example neuspeed springs made for the base WILL fit the SH, however the drop amount may be slightly different than advertised
3) be aware that you may have to hack away at some of your lower console trim around the gear shift, because the short shifter kit will rub
4) good idea, thats the first thing I would change on the car, get rid of those RE92's......i bought RE730s....excellent summer only z rated performance tire, if you can afford s-03 pole positions, get those...but RE730 is one step below, and half the price.
5) don't plan on an upper strut bar if you get the supercharger......it won't fit
hope this helped

First off, good job finding a good car and a good color at that. I'm not sure what the going price is for 2001 models right now, so I wouldn't know what a good price to pay would be. Your goals are near identical to mine! You've got some really good plans going for the Lude, and the stealth look will throw a lot of people off, despite how clean it'll look
Personally, in your situation, I would go ahead and do at least a 2" drop and give it a real slammed look, but not too extreme--that way you can invest in a good set of shocks to match the combo up.
As for the upper strut bar, yeah I've heard it won't fit, but you can manage the rest of your suspension bars you've listed. Do get an intake or the header and exhaust won't mean jack, and get a 3" exhaust going, for the FI you'll be running. I'd definitely get new tires as well, and that just comes down to preference on brand and tread wear...Good job again on finding the Prelude, welcome to the board!
--Also if you have any questions about the supercharger, I know NCH22driver has one on his Lude and he loves it. He may be able to give you some feedback on it.

IF you get JRSC I highly recommend some extra fuel management. A V-AFC, Adustable FPR, blah blah...
People blow a lot of motors with JRSC and no tuning...it's not plug and play. I highly recommend a Hondata Setup or a standalone ems....For Hondata or any standalone the SH is a poor choice as you will lose the ATTS system and just have a heavier car with a cool feature you can't use. Stuff to think about.
And I hope you got $$ for maintenance...that JRSC has to come out often. There are a lot of good threads on PO.com about it.

Issues??
BTW I cant get onto Preludeonline.com, They want money for me to join. Does anybody have a username and password I can borrow for an hour or 2 just to browse?
As for the suspension, someone please enlighten me more on the drop factor. This SH/Non SH thing is starting to bug me now.........

The perfect thread about what you want to know is here: http://www.preludeonline.com/showthr...threadid=90193
I guess it depends on whether $6 is worth $5000 savings in an engine rebuild!
Basically you need bigger injectors and some fuel management. The only way to run standalone and keep your ATTS is with the EFI PMS system. Hondata or AEM systems can't do it.
The cheap way is bigger injectors a v-afc and an FPR and lots of tuning

Satan,
I though the vfac & fuel system was to fine-tune & get extra power and not a necessity. So, after the JRSC install, do you need just the vfac or that plus injectors or other stuff?
thanks

First off, congrats on the car. Exact same as mine
means you have style
As for the JRSC, I personally wouldn't go that route because I heard the type SH doesn't respond well to boost. JRSC should be OK, but don't get the boost upgrade, as far as I know, turbos are out of the question. Are you sure you don't want to tinker with the engine? C'mon just imagine making power up to 8,000rpm. Anyway, if you need a good source for parts, contact hondadriven, hes a good guy. Shipped my exhaust (apexi n1) for $470. I'll let you know how it feels, also I'm getting my vafc tuned soon, so I'll post how that turns out. in the mean time, enjoy the car, which I think is a fair price.

I would say there's a bunch of things you 'should' have in addition to your JRSC, but I don't have one so I can't list everything. Injectors and someway to tune your fuel is a must though.
$$$17900 for a 28000 miles 01 SH in blue so im assuming EBP?? those are rare... and its fairly brand new. how come its going for such a good deal? make sure to check carfax
What does EBP stand for?? Yeah I already got carfax. The car was driven by an older Chinese couple. The car was babied. Anyway let me know what that stands for.
Especially on a type Sh, they only made it in one year. Theres probably ~500 EBP type-SHs in the US. We are rare indeed
Well guess what, I went to the dealership today to go over paperwork, and after inspecting the car I found out its actually NOT an SH! So knowing this, and the mistake the salesman made, I used it to my advantage to knock the price down to $16,400. They agreed, but wouldnt not do the "Honda Certification" warrenty extension thing. And I agreed to it on the condition they give it to me for a day to check stuff like compression etc. Does this sound like a good deal? $16,400 for a 2001 Blue Prelude 5 speed with 27,000 miles on it?? It still has the balance of the original factory warrenty. Also what should I check for on this car when I take it home besides obvious leaks, compression etc?? Any inherant weak points on this vehicle??
I take it also that haveing a base Prelude is actually a big plus for doing mods too?

not bad,
i just paid $20,000 for a 2001 red SH model with only 2600 miles on it! Its certified and has a huge *** warranty on it now. However, I plan on driving it stock (driveability is awesome) until i'm so sick of its snail pace compared to my prior turbo gsr integra. Then, I buy a base engine and tranny, build it for boost and then swap out the SH and go turbo.

You don't have to scrap the SH engine or tranny, just disconnect the ATTS, unless you care about the 88 extra lbs or you want to have a built engine ready to drop in with minimal downtime.
BTW, if you do scrap the tranny, let me know.
Edit - actually, forget what I just said, I forgot the h22a1 is closed deck, oops

Are you purchaseing the car through a honda dealer? If so it has to come with a Certified Honda Warrenty (Which is 1 yr. entire car/ 100k powertrain)
The car is being bought through a dealership that sells new Honda's but they have a seperate used car dept. After checking with Honda's website I typed in the zip 03063 and the nearest dealership came up 16 miles away which is in Manchester NH even though Peter's of Nashua is literally a half mile down the road from my house. So nope, no extended warrenty. Its ok though cuz I got the balance of the factory warrenty and the car was checked over by 2 mechanics including myself. The car is perfect mechanically.
