ok so i have about 10 k miles on my stage 5 unsprung clutch master. i was on the dyno today , and was making about 326 whp and bout 231 tq . we notice the tq was dropping like crazy. can it be because i didnt bleed the clutch when i put the motor back together? or do i need a replacement ? if so what are your guys recommendations ? im looking to make close to 500 whp on race gas but will be daily driven at bout 380-400 whp. sorry i forgot to mention this is on my gsr turbo

 

Either the air gap was not checked properly during install or you are getting oil from the rear seal in it....no way it should be slipping at that power level..

 

um, if you pulled the transmission out then put it back in or disconnected the line from the master to the slave you need to re-bleed...

how bad have you beaten on the clutch? 10k miles is a lot if you drive like a dipshit everywhere you go

 

i mostly drive it to where imma go race . each track is two hours away from me . and when i pulled the trans all i did was unmount the slave cylinfee from the trans

 

im assuming drag racing, meaning burnouts and slipping off the line? the disc is probably shot. pull the boot off of the trans and look in with a flashlight... i bet there's friction material everywhere

my stage 5 clutch held 600+whp. No reason for yours not to be

 

what brand ? clutch master? and how much miles did you have on it? and i just look where the boot is i dont see anything i will try to bleed it .

incase i do need a new clutch any clutches you guys recommend ? brand stages ?

 

a properly maintained and not beaten on clutch will.
a clutch, no matter what ":stage" can only survive so much abuse

im betting its time for a new friction disc and i wouldn't be surprised if the pressure plate was heat scored to hell and back and the flywheel needed to be resurfaced

 

ok. so should i just buy a new disc? and resurface the flywheel and pressure? also how do you properly maintain a clutch ? when i launch i feather the gas not clutch.

 

anyone got any recommendations on clutches?

 

competition stage 5 is what i use in all the street cars that come in. if you unbolted the slave and didnt take the line off than i doubt it needs bled. a clutch system thats not bled properly wont have the symptoms you are having i.e. it wont slip it will just be hard to get into gear or not go in at all. as said above but not in an assholish fashion you probably burnt it up prematurely, dont feel bad you were probably lauching the car properly and saved axles and trannys... good job i would rather replace a single disk clutch every few months than change axles or trannys at the track.

I would personally stay with the CM and just replace the disc. I have a CM stg 4, 4 puck holding 375ftlbs also with 10k miles. I think youll be fine. Just has alot of miles and abuse on yours.

 

yeah so should i go to a stage 4 sprung? i also just remember i dont think i broke in the clutch. but after i went turbo i dont do full throttle shifts.

 

if you didn't break it in thats also a problem, full throttle shifts don't matter. you aren't supposed to drive a fresh organic clutch hard

 

ok. my lesson learn since im trying to budget myself i will try getting another disc. do you guys recommend a stage 4 ? can i resurface the pressure plate if needed?

If you like the CM I would stay with it. I hate my CC.

i love all of my competition clutches... company is local to me and they always stand behind their stuff... i've had a stage 1 and a stage 5 in my civic, as well as a custom built single disc on my sr20 and it stood up to tons of clutch kicks

 

op why don't you show up some pictures of the clutch, PP, and flywheel. Show pictures of the "fingers" on the PP they will tell alot about the PP condition. Personally I would re surface flywheel, New clutch and PP. I think 10,000 miles of racing is getting your moneys worth out of a clutch.

 

the clutch is still in the car. i dont want to pull it till i have enough for a new clutch yet. anybody know of a cheap place to get a cc kit. ?
