Default ABS - crooked tone ring

Hello,

I recently installed a new front (driver side) ABS sensor on a 2000 Accord after the sensor wiring was severed. Since then, I've been getting 1-1 and 1-2 ABS errors. I finally jacked up the car yesterday and compared both front wheel sensors. I found the tone ring on the front (driver side) wheel has slipped and isn't aligned properly with the sensor any more. I'm pretty sure this is the cause of my 1-1 and 1-2 ABS errors.

Here're 2 shots of the same tone ring as I rotate the wheel. You can see that the sensor sits centred on the ring in one shot, but is hanging off the ring in the other photo.

Is it possible to straighten out the tone ring? How would I do that?

Thanks,
Greg

you might be able to recenter it with a drift, punch, or chisel and a light tapping hammer.

heat the ring evenly so that it expands. put it on as straight as you can and hold it in place while it cools. same concept as putting the gear ring on a flywheel.

Do you have a small flat bar to try and pry the ring back?
If you can, check it after pulling it back and make sure it is not loose, if it is push it back and apply some Loctite to bond it to the axle.

Unless there was a direct strike on the tone ring, there should be no reason for it to move. If you have to remove the axle to fit, you probably should just bring it back and have it replaced under warranty.

The fit is exact. If you dont install it correctly, you may have the abs engaging during normal braking. Best to return the axle for replacement,IMO
