Honda Civic 2004 performance.
Hello Guys,
I had a civic manuel 01 EX model. I use to drive 80 km/hr at 2000 rpm.
My bro has a civic 04 manuel and it drove 80 km/hr at 2500 rpm.
Normally the gear ratio between the 2 should be the same.
Is it normal that there is a change in the RPM as the 04 is consuming a little more fuel.
Thanks in advance.

Your brothers Civic seems more accurate than your recollection.
I have an '02 EX with a manual transmission. In 5th gear and at 60 MPH - it is at approximately 2800 RPM. (between 2700 and 2800)
So, 2500 at 50 MPH (or about 80km/h) is what I would consider normal.

Hi It Wasn't Me,
Is your car modified one or running on stock ?
One more thing i have noticed is when running on idle, sometimes the rpms rises from 800 to 1100 all of a sudden and goes back to 800.

Start with inspecting/cleaning your IACV (Idle Air Control Valve) and doing the Idle Relearn. Also check for vacuum leaks around the intake.
Here's a thread showing just how nasty they can get. https://honda-tech.com/forums/honda-civic-2001-2005-78/throttle-body-clean-up-honda-civic-2001-ex-2608248/
Idle Relearn summarized:
Disconnect the battery, or remove fuse #6 out of the fuse box under the hood. Wait 30 seconds, then reinstall (or reconnect) it.
- Turn everything electrical OFF. (radio, wipers, a/c, lights, etc etc)
- Start the car and hold the idle at 3,000 RPM until the radiator fan comes on, or until the coolant has reached 194° F.
- Take your foot off the accelerator and let the car idle for five minutes. (if the radiator fan comes on, do not include its run-time in the five minutes)
If none of those do any good, update your thread.
