This is normally the ECT Engine coolant temperature sensor located in the cylinder head below the distributor.

Laura, I don't know your mechanic knowledge but I hope this helps. Or maybe give you some more helpful info for your Honda for now and in the future

This is what I would do:
1st: When's the last time you had the distributor, cap, rotor, plugs and wires, fuel filter and main relay replaced?
My honda accrd lx 1992 was doing the same thing last winter. I've noticed with mine that distributor cap and rotors, plugs and wires must be done every year, especially the distributor cap and rotor, and making sure your spark plug wires are in the correct Firing Order.

2nd: Main relays are pains in the rear and can get a beating. Take it out and look at the circut board and see if anything looks burned or chipd off or broke in half. They should all be shinny and glossy, not frosted or discolored/missing or dried goo. (Under drivers side, straight up, right behind a huge silver looking box, socket wrench it off and walla you'll see one little protected box by itself with wires, unplug, socket wrench off one bolt, and open the box) there should be some youtube vids that can show you this.

I replaced mine yesterday due to my car starting and dieing out, when i took the main relay out and took a look at it, one of the soldered pieces was broken.
I bought a new one for $76 and car is back to normal.

3rd: Fuel pump: to check it, you can have someone listen at your fuel tank as someone else turns the key to I believe 2nd position, you should hear a click at the fuel tank, then you'll know its working.

4th: Also, batteries with ONE cell that has died, will most certainly make your car start and die. Have an auto parts store look at that. They do it for free. Get a new battery, dont recharge it.

5th: Fuel filter (mounted to your firewall on your left) That can also be part of your issue, if you havent taken care of it in a long while, you might as well do so cause it'll be dirty.

6th: Also, if you dont let your car warm up every day and while in and out all the time, it will wear your honda down little by little.

7th: Changing out the Temp Sensor, is not a bad idea, I've not had to do mine except for basic maintenance if needed. Never had any luck changing one out to fix a start and die situation with my honda. It's always been a bigger issue: Mostly distrbtrs =( but apparently its a cursed item. lol.

Hondas will also try to correct themselves, I would most certainly disconnect your battery cables for 30 seconds to refresh your cars computer. It can make a huge difference. I was advised by a mechanic tht my car was spitting out codes like crazy for 2hours. It apparently was overloaded since no one had thought to disconnect the battery. I was so ticked off that I had to walk to work in the freezing snow one year cuz their dumbarses didnt restart the computer. I refreshed it and he started right up as if nothing ever happened. Every since then, I'm now the designated mechanic for my car.

I've had my honda since I was 19yrs old and I'm 32. So I know way too much about my car. lol. But if you need help or other questions I'd be glad to help. Sorry if I overloaded you in anyway.

Test the ECT sensor with a digital meter across the two terminals when the car is cold and when it's completely warmed up.

Should be around 2500 ohms or so when cold and 200 - 400 ohms when completely warmed up.
