grinding/scraping noise when making u-turn
I just test drove a '99 CR-V LX AWD with 175,000 miles. Everything on the car is great except there's a grinding/scraping noise that seems to be coming from the front left wheel when making a very tight u-turn. Like you have to have the steering wheel completely turned to the left to make it make the noise.
I've read that old rear dif. fluid can cause a noise when turning, but what other things should I consider? Wheel bearings, CV joints, etc.

diff fluid in the rear, save something actually rubbing like improperly sized tires. Axles typically click/snap/pop while turning when they are bad.. which doesn't sound like what you're trying to describe.
all three are very different noises. should be immediately recognized by anyone with any sort of experience.

As described this is a common failure with the rear differential fluid needing to be replaced. Here is a video of the diagnosis and repair. Hope this helps someone.
