Hello all honda experts! There is a rattling noise coming from the from my steering pump. I suspect that the ball bearings are causing it. What will happen if I unscrew the nut (circled) and try to grease the ball bearings? Will the whole thing come apart or is safe for me to attempt this?

If it's rattling, it likely means the bearing is beyond repair. Try and find a local junkyard with a decent pump, then swap them.

 

yeah they aren't really designed to be re-greased, once they rattle like that its usually too far gone inside, you'll need to replace it with a new pump

 

If the bearing failed it will usually pour oil all over the place. I would remove the belt first and restart the engine to make sure that is actually causing the noise. Then check the all the pulleys for end play and runout.
