Icon6 Check Engine Light Flashes Randomly

I have A 2003 Honda Civic Ex with a D17A2 motor. When I start the car the idle is fine and car has full power whether at idle or driving. The check engine light has been on since i bought the car the only thing is it turns off and back on randomly and then after a while of it doing that the ECU goes into limp mode can anyone explain to me what is happening.

Find out why the MIL has been coming on by scanning the car. You can do it yourself if you have a scanner, or you can take the car to an auto parts store and have them do it for free. Many places will. I don't advise taking it to the dealer just to have it scanned.

After you scan it, post the code(s) here.

If the light is literally "flashing" when this happens, it's due to a misfire which can be caused by a number of things. Bad fuel or insufficient fuel pressure, incorrect valve lash, fouled or incorrect spark plugs, etc. etc. The list goes on.

But, yeah, find out what codes they are and post them here. That'll help us give you some advice as to what you can do to fix it.

Buy some obd2 scanner on ebay, and connect to your smartphone via bluetooth. Use torque pro and scan the ecu fault codes.
