2005 Civic EX alarm going off
I've had my Civic EX since 2005 when I bought it new. Had absolutely NO IDEA that this thing had an alarm until it started going off last week. 2 times in the past week it has gone off for no reason (light wind?). I push the lock/unlock button on the key and it stops honking the horn.
I did get LoJack at the dealership when I bought it but all that does is track the location, it does not honk the horn. I never bought an aftermarket alarm. The weird thing is that it hasn't made a peep for 7 years and now it is acting like it has a sensitive alarm.
Does the 2005 Civic EX come stock with an alarm? How do I disable this thing? There is not even a mention of an alarm in the user manual that came with the car... I'm totally mystified. Maybe my dealership installed the alarm before selling it and forgot to tell me?

I think you just found the red panic button on the remote. Panic feature flashes the lights and honks the horn. It's a safety feature meant to draw attention.
FYI: Studies have shown the best way to get peoples' attention is to yell "FIRE!" (short of firing a gun. lol)

Looks like you can disable it by removing the 2amp fuse from slot #15 under the dash.
I didn't see any mention of a vibration detector of any kind, so I don't know why the OEM alarm would be going off for no reason. Unless it's actually part of the "security unit" portion of the kit.
Are your keys in your pocket when this happens?
You guys nailed it. It must be the remote panic button. I'll remove that fuse immediately.
I suppose it might be useful in some situations but 99.9% of the time a car alarm is just annoying to everyone in the neighborhood. I once tore the hood off of a Jeep Cherokee that had an alarm going off. Tore it off... like the Hulk. I'm not joking.
Thanks a bunch!
