Most common swaps/turbo builds?
Hey everyone, I have been a lurker on here for a little bit, I have done my research but havent found an answer to my question. I really want to get into the honda game, I plan on picking up a really cheap eg hatch, I would prefer if it was a shell. Then I will get the body restored/rust repaired and painted white. Then I will want to do a turbo build into it, but I don't know which engine to choose, the b18c looks pretty powerful, would this be good? My budget for everything is 6k. Can you guys help me out and point me in the right direction? Thanks.

increase your budget, how much hp are you wanting and what internals do you plan on using; and we can start the conversation
1.) Read the FAQs.
2.) Yes.
3.) I will believe it when I see it for $6k... Maaco and eBay are your best friends (not mine).
4.) Did I mention read the FAQs already?
5.) You gave us NO direction to go off of... $6k to build what exactly?
6.) You should probably read the FAQs and get the facts. Searching for a couple minutes doesn't constitute as actually searching...
7.) B18C what? 1, 5, just B18C? Then what model is it out of?

and yes i have read the FAQ's but still couldnt really find the direction to go
they are right you do need to up your budget. maybe if you were to just buy a shell and just swap it with a gsr. then buy a turbo kit.or you can go with a ls then do pistons and rods with that set up.
to beat mustangs and evos youll need 3k just for the turbo kit.
better save your pennies cuz going fast isnt cheap.
I can keep up with the cars u listed and i have way over 6k invested

Like what said before 6k isn't enough, half of that will cover the engine and I'm unsure if you want to rebuild it for lower compression. If so throw in another $1500. I would budget around 8-10k. Always remember you have to build around the motor as well, meaning the supporting mods such as motor mounts, traction bar, etc

I hear yeah, but let's focus on what needs to be done for now. What were you confused on in the FAQ? How much knowledge do you have on Honda motors?

so to correct myself, what swap/setup would be best for me on my budget? what is the most common swap people do cheaply to go fast? thanks.
as for my knowledge it is above an average person with honda, like i said I am trying to get in the game so as we speak I am reading FAQs and about hondas.
For the absolute cheapest build with quality parts:
Car: Stockish D-series 92-95 Civic (preferably VTEC)
Engine Mods: Vitara Pistons, Custom Length Connecting Rods ($500 or so for both)
Turbo Kit: GO-AUTOWORKS.com - pick a kit, ANY kit!
Gauges: At least a Wideband O2 and Boost gauge
Fuel System: This depends on what HP you are looking for as "fast" is a relative term that has many definitions depending on who is talking... Most likely 550cc injectors on eBay for around $200 and a $100 Walbro 255lph fuel pump.
EMS: CROME - people knock it because it's not the best, but for the price, it's hard to beat. (If you are having somebody else tune it = chipped ECU and thats it...)
A few minor odds and ends and you can have yourself a solid 300whp 12 second+ car (assuming you can drive)... all of this for your budget of $6k!!!
PS - Did I mention to SEARCH!?!?!?!?! All this is easily found by searching and looking at other people's builds and putting some "logic" together.

You can probably get the car and engine for around $6k, maybe less depending, but not the entire package.

For reference, here is the cost of my build so far:
'88 EF STD Hatchback - $500
wrecked DA Integra parts car (for brakes, motor, etc) - $700
b18a1 sleeved - $1200
b18c5 head + rebuild - $700
Pistons/rods/wristpins - $1000
Ancillary parts (oil/water pump, timing belt, gaskets, ARP headstuds etc.) - $1400
Clutch/flywheel - $600
LSD - $650
Motor mounts - $350
Aeromotive 340 pump - $160
Aeromotive FPR/fuel rail - $310
id1000 injectors - $480
Victor X intake manifold - $300
Doc Race turbo manifold - $700
Tial MVR - $350
Hondata S300, boost solenoid, 4 bar, p28 ecu - $900
Traction Bar - $300
Machine shop - $550
Subtotal - $11,150
I sold the EF interior/motor and the DA shell for $1000
Total - $10,150
I traded the LS transmission for a b16 transmission with a broken LSD.
I still need:
Turbo (not sure if I am going to use the one I have) $1000-1500
Intercooler, piping, BOV $500-700
Downpipe, dump tube, exhaust $400-600
tuning $350
Axles $1000-1500
I am doing all the work myself besides the machine shop stuff and the tuning, if you are getting it done at a shop add a lot more for labor. If you have the space you should do it yourself because you will be able to fix pretty much anything that you break in the future. Plus it is very easy, if you can't figure it out yourself I guarantee there is a youtube video showing you how to do it.
If you want to build this car, I would buy a running car then fix the shell to your liking. You can build your b swap while you drive around your hatch. If you want more than 300whp and reliability you are going to need to spend some more cash though.
