Default hybrid rex help?

My crx seems to be always grinding 3rd gear. When i drive normally it seems to be nice and smooth. Even when i take it to 6k and go to 3rd its fine, but when i race and i go to 3rd it always grinds or it want go in at all. Maybe im trying to shift to fast and its my imagination. Also when i have little to no gas my car seems to bog and on occasion completely stops giving gas. Maybe its from the gsr fuel pump?? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks

What Tranny do you have with the swap? Also does yor car idle weird? COuld be a mass air flow sensor, or and idle set screw.

Sounds like your 3rd gear synchro going out, it seem to have happened to a lot of guys on this board, including myself.

My Y1 trans used to grind A TON into 2nd, 3rd and occasionally 4th. I tried changing the fluid to Honda manual trans fluid...and also Redline 10w30. neither worked. I now have GM Synchromesh in it. THE DIFFERENCE IS LIKE NIGHT AND DAY....it still grinds a little..but it's a lot better....and i dont have money to rebuild the trans w/ brand new jdm synchros. I also heard that Lucas is some good **** too. GM synchromesh is well worth the $17 a quart..you will need a little over 2 quarts. hope that helped

Happened to me too in my accord (3rd gear synchro) it started after I changed the master and slave clutch cylinders.

you have to remember you have a cable tranny, it is not as good as a hydro tranny at shifting at high rpms, my s1 in my b16 does it sometimes too (when I am reving to 8k then shifting). that is a big reason most people would choose a hydro tranny over a cable tranny.

Yeah good luck fixing it because a whole bunch of people get a grind in third on older cable trans. It pretty much comes with the territory and it's something you just have to deal with unless you have a mountain of cash for a rebuild or you have alot of time on your hands. My S1 has a grind above 8k but since I rarely ever take my car above that I don't worry too much about it. Your best bet is to do like Fishcat37 says: get a really good trans fluid and enjoy the tranny while it lasts.

The gsr FP doesnt sit low enough in the tank to suck gas when fuel levels are low. A few weeks ago at a local auto-X I was a little below 1/2 and every extremely hard turn the car would bog. Pissed me off. I put a type R(same as gsr) fp in last spring and I am getting ready to get a 92-93 gsr pump. Its too much of a PITA always remembering the gauge is off. I dont think the 92-93 gsr pump is different from the civics but oh well. hth

Some tranny's aren't as strong as others. So i was wandering if he had a weaker tranny. I personally went with the S1, with a F.I. setup and have no problems with it. Although his problem seems to be totalyy syncro related.

The JDM trannies are notorious for the synchros going usually 3rd and forth , my y1 had the problem I use honda MT for it and that work to a point but there is not much you can do the best I did was a short shifter and some good bushings, good tranny fluid and fingers crossed I only say the shifter and bushings to make it shorter for your throw and more accurate lessining the chance of a bad grind, however once they go the go and they are a bitch to get parts for. You could get a USDM gsr or any b series tranny cable or do a hydro conversion, of course the newer the tranny the better.
