1999 Honda Civic Si(em1) red stitching seats
I'm in progress of stitching my 99 civic si seats red like the integer type r seats. It took me about 3 hours or a bit more to do this part only. Yes very fun. Lol, but it's pretty easy. it just takes time. The red stitching isn't straight either because it's a DIY hand made with no knowledge of sewing/stitching. Overall it looks pretty sick. Hopefully i get my front seats done by the end of september and back seats by jan.
update: going to just order HONDA OEM THREAD. 08U98-SAP-000R1. Going to have to wait for the thread
if anyone knows how to move this thread let me know. Thanks.

I've reupholstered a few cars worth of seats. Do yourself a favor, and buy a decent sewing machine capable of handling upholstery. I destroyed two $150 machines before finally being told by the old lady at the thread shop what I was doing wrong. Hand stitching will not hold up. Also, make sure you're using upholstery cloth, and upholstery thread. It's generally more expensive, but it's the only stuff that'll hold up to regular wear and tear.
I was thinking about doing this to my EM1 seats also, however I am terrible at any type of sewing so I would probably just take them to a local upholstery shop. I'm looking forward to seeing them when they're done!

Wow didn't know. I don't have a machine to do this. I didn't want to take off my seat covers(cloth) because i think it might get ruined somehow. If you think it'll be safe let me know and what machine to buy and a link tot he thread your talking about. The thread i'm using is cheap. Bought it at micheals for like $3.00. i guess i should look into this more. Thanks.
It's easy to learn, after reading the comment above I'm afraid that my seat will start to tear and rip. These are very clean/no tear/ rip/ on these Si seats. Imma just do it though. Other day someone tried to steal my SI. Sadly, they failed :D
Hmm, well, i really like the new look you are going for, i think it's awesome!....however-
why EM1 seats?? They really kind of suck, hardly any side support. They last couple EK's i've had (including my EM!), i got rid of those god forsaken seats in favor of the DC2 Intgera version. Result, simply amazing!!! And, if you recover those with the same attention, you would really have a worthwhile upgrade

Do you realize that Type R seats are "exactly" the same as any RS, LS or GS set, with the material being the only difference.
Here's a shot of the last couple sets i've had installed in my ek's

good job. it doesn't look great, but as long as your happy, its your car.
I suggest you make the stitches alot closer... get a machine, your doing like 25 stitches....the real have like 3x that amount.

As for thread, talk to someone in the sewing department, or even better go to an actual sewing store. You want to use a thick, pure cotton top thread, and ideally a non-wax poly thread on the back. Wax thread can pull through over time, especially in the heat of a car. If you want a visible thread, you have two options. Option one, run a loose stitch and pull the thread out. If you want the look you have right now, you want to use a tight stitch to connect the fabrics, then run a separate double stitch on the sides of the main stitch. It's a little more complicated to do, but if you're willing to put the time in it's worth the look. That's why double-stitched cloth stuff is so much more expensive. You could also do an attached double stitch...but that's way too complicated for someone whose never sewed before.
Money? The last three sets i purchased cost me $80 a set. I am sure if you looked around, you could find a similar deal.

Hog rings are easy to remove, and cheap to replace. Separating the cloth sheets is easy, as long as you're careful with the thread stripper. Any good machine should be able to handle upholstery, but a dedicated upholster or quilting machine is best. I personally use the Brother PE770, but it's a bit pricey at $700.

Kinda don't get what your saying but i will look more into it. i might just do the head rest and see how long it'll last. or i might just take it off and go Gsr leather seats. Sadly, rear seats don't fit perfectly.
Well, it wasn't that important to me, but i do have the rear seats too, and when i get in the mood, i plan to swing by an upholstery shop and have the material swapped over to my original seat with some custom work i am sure
i got a quote for my si seats. leather w/red stitches. $1192. uh not worth it lol.
Sice you were going to the trouble, you should have been doing it to integra seats instead of civic ones
