It really depends on what YOU want to do.
D series swap you can place right into the car.
If you are wanting a B series swap, you will need Axles, Mounts, shift linkage, Engine and transmission.
You can probably pickup an LS swap for pretty cheap locally.

i want something fun to drive with some decent power when i need it. I'm not a track guy so i wont be needing extreme power. D-Series swaps i have seen around for fairly cheap.

I'd go with something that was kind of factory installed... For example a zc dohc obd0 or go with a good d series platform. Like the z6, since he said u have the option of obd0 or obd1.... More reliable in the longrun and also fun to drive
I have the DOHC ZC and its pretty peppy, plus I get 40+ mpg if I drive it nice. Can't beat that combo. Although I'm gonna be boosting it soon, not much, but shooting for 200whp. I like the engine, and its pretty cheap and uses D-series parts, which are often cheaper than B-series stuff.

You can try building lightly a Z6 or a SOHC ZC. Just lightly, headers, exhaust, intake manifold, CAI, maybe 250-300cc injectors, clutch. All the common things. With a Z6 you can make around 180whp with name brand parts easily. But that still is pretty costly.
Aren't ZC's hard to come by?
What about a B18A1 out of an integra? But like said above you need to change everything to B series.

I'd get a z6 or y8 with a cable si trans, those usually go rather cheap and super easy to drop in, but don't plan on making 180whp easily on one with out boost.
That thing sounds molested. And you can easily buy any single swap or ls/b20 swap for 800$ complete. If you spend more then that you got ripped off. find someone selling one local and make an offer. Every one of my friends has a b series and aside from vtec nobody paid over 800.
