Default Got bit by the Honda bug again haha

So I tried leaving the Honda scene but that didn't last long lol. I picked up a 91 hatch dx pretty clean all original. The car smokes the guy told me he re did the bottom end cause it smoked. Still smokes he said its the valve seals. I took it home did a compression test it read 1,2,3,4 153-155-158-155. I did a leak down test next. I leaked 60% in cyl1 through the intake side you could also hear it in cyl 2. Cyl 2 stayed at 10% cyl 3 10% cyl 4 leaked 60% and could hear it on cyl 3 n you can hear it lightly on the tail pipe n smell the gas fumes. I'm guessing cyl1 is leaking on the intake side n cyl 4 is leaking on the exhaust side. My dout is if Im leaking 60% in cyl 1,4 shouldn't my compression be low on those 2 cyl?

pull the motor, stock d series motors are so common and cheap its not even worth opening up that motor IMO. For under $300 you could have a good replacement and have it in the car and running in an afternoon

Assuming the bottom end was done properly, The oil issue can only come from the cylinder head. Either valve guides or valve stem seals.. If you also have a leak down issue then I personally would pull the head and take it to a machine shop to have the valve guides replaced (if need be) and have the valves reseated, new valve stem seals and of course have it all hot tanked.. Having the guides pressed in is gonna be your biggest cost. Usually $25-$30per guide.

The guides are what the valve stems sit in and are supported by. The are made of either bronze or brass and wear overtime. Make sure and go to a reputable shop because Ive seen some bottom dollar shops do a head and the car wind up leaking more than it did before.. What sucks at that point is doing the work twice..

Good luck with it..

Honestly think the guy lies about redoing the bottom end it it was done poorly it should have at least 180-200 if it was just rebuilt no more than a month ago. I think I will go will with the option of rebuilding a ls I have sitting around I have most parts for a b series swap anyways. I'll do a good motor flush throw some good oil n some no smoke crap and hopefully it hold till the rebuild is done. The car runs good other than the smoke. I only want this car for work anyways or as a back up while the Lexus goes down for the 2jz swap.

Cool deal.. When it comes to stuff like that don't believe anything the PO says unless they can show reciepts and pics..

Good luck with that swap.. If it were me, I'd rebuild the D and get the mpg out of it since you know that 2jz lexus won't do anything over 20mpg.. lol.. Gotta have the good beater car in order have an awesome street/strip car..
