black stuff coming out my exhaust
ive been doing some research, theres been some black substance that shoots out of my muffler, i have yonaka catback exhaust on a 95 civic ex, what could cause this? some sites say i need spark plugs? but i really dont know, let me know what you guys think.
usually its just condensation that mixes with the soot in the pipes. but put our fingers on the stuff on the ground and smell it. smells like fuel then you need to look deeper into whats causing it.. if it doesnt smell, then your fine
everyones ive seen online their exhaust is pretty clean inside then you look at mine and its black inside like deep black, also i have a leak on my engine a honda mechanic told theres a leak in my cam seal, could that be the issue?
the black means your burning rich.. could be fuel or could be just excess carbon.
no, the cam seal has nothing to do with your exhaust.
sounds like you have alot of maintenance to do

check your plugs and look into a full tune up. FULL TUNE UP new oil change/pcv valve/ plugs and wires/fuel filter/ a bottle of lucas injector cleaner/ valve lash adjustment/ clean your iacv.
when my tps and iac both went out i had the same problem my car shot alot of black stuff out my muffler i replaced them and it went away i hated cleaning my car just to get home and have more carbon on my bumper
Well an old chevy we had burned oil bad...we had to replace the piston rings..and black smoke on throttle was the main indicator in that case...along with a sludgy black soot all over the end of the pipe.....When we replaced the rings the smoke was gone and the soot never returned(after cleaning)....so.......
Dc2012 please dont touch your car.... Black soot is a sign of rich (To much fuel) and white/blue smoke is burning oil... Both can leave soot in your exhaust pipe but comming from exhaust is fuel.
JChope... You had to clean your bumper just to get home.... wtf

Your ring seal and rings and bore was washed down with fuel and washing the oil of your cylinder walls and burning that oil out of the combustion.
There for ruining the rings/ringseal, and burning all of that cyl wall oil out the pipe with it.
This all could have been avoided by having a properly jetted/tuned fuel delivery from the start
