Honda brake pads vs. Aftermarket?
I have a 1998 Accord that needs front pads. The dealership will charge $268 plus tax with Honda parts. My local guy will use Wagner thermoquiet pads and turn rotors for $125. If I want he will install Honda parts[$70 on web] for me and charge for labor. What do you think is the better and more economical route for my car?
i changed my fronts with OEM quality semi-metallics. Total cost of parts a a local parts warehouse? $25 with tax.
Took about an hour with set-up and clean-up. Newer generation calipers are super easy. Wheel off, two bolts, press cylinder in, pads in, two bolts, wheel on, torque...done. Nuttin compared to old car hassles.....

Honda's don't even need two bolts off! Just the bottom bolt, and swing the caliper up, that way you don't even have to worry about the caliper falling loose and hanging on the brake line. Just be sure to note if the wear indicator is on the outside or inside... Actually which side are they supposed to be on? It's been a long time since the first time I changed them and I'm not sure if I got it right!
I've used the same shims that came with the original brakes, my Accord now has 245,000 miles on it. No squeaks, and I'm still on the original rotors. As far as an anti-squeak compound, I use that high temp brake grease on the backs of the pads and on the backs of the shims.

Brakes are about one of the easiest things to maintain on your Accord. Difference on OEM Honda pads and Aftermarket pads are not the big a difference.
Honda brake pads stop pretty good and there also semi-metalic.
Aftermarket pads come in variety and if you pay a lil more you can get the pads that don't release that much dust.
All matters on how fast you wanna stop and how much you wanna spend.
My 0.2

If you are looking for a quiet, low dust pad...then stick with your OE Honda brake pads. Go online and purchase them yourself, and then find a friend who can show you how to install them. An over the counter fluid such as Valvoline Synpower will be a good choice to bleed with.
If you are looking for a higher-performance brake pad, then drop me an e-mail at info@cobaltfriction.com.

man, changing brakes are so easy, and you dont have to do your rotors.
anyways, go to your local auto store and buy the most expensive brakes they have with LIFETIME warranty.
i got some generic ones that comes with the squeky pads, and they work good.
when theyre gone, you just take it back to the store with your receipt and get new ones for freeee.
