Default my project del sol (lots of pics)

whats up guys. Just wanted to make a thread on my progress on my project. its a 93 del sol s. when i bought it the previous owner hacked it up. the springs were cut, shocks blown, the radio was a pos dual radio from walmart wired up to a stadium style loud speaker, it needed a tie rod and the exhaust was hacked. The good parts was the interior was all there and in amazing shape besides the carpet. and it was stock besides the cut springs. First thing i did was replace the tie rod and springs and did all the fluids and an alignment. next i bought an ebay catback and testpipe (was very very low on funds and needed something to put on). doesnt sound bad actually. I then bought an actuall suspension. blox all the way around including rear LCAs. I had pics of it but lost em. then I started some paint fixing. the hood was crappy clear coated and looked like ****. so i sanded it all down along with the targa top and painted a satin black. yes i rattle canned it but i think for a rattle can job it came out good and a hell of a lot better than it was.
this is the day i got it

this is after the new suspension tires and hood painted

then I gutted the trunk and sanded down all the rust spots. sprayed the trunk with rust inhibitor, then bedlined the whole trunk. I had pictures but also cannot find em. came out aweomse IMO. however still have a leak and dont know how to fix it. the water comes from behind the strut towers. you can kind of see the bedlining in one the the pics below of the audio

Next I replaced the door speakers and bought some rear speaker brackets and mounted some speakers. I have alpine s components in front and alpine s speakers in rear

then i decided to prep and paint the wheels i am going to use for winter. i sandblasted them, primerd, then painted and the last pic is what they will look like.

then I decided that my sound system still sucked so I gathered up some things i had laying around and did a full system with tuck. now i have music. It includes an alpine deck, alpine mrv-f540 4 channel running all the speakers, jl audio 500/1 running a jl audio 12".

Custom mounted to the trunk wall. Also found out del sols are made for systems. theres two holes on either side of the inside of the trunk the run right down into the rear of the cabin. perfect for amp wiring. also here you can see my bedlining

and then stealth mode

more to come

then

by the looks of it, you shouldve went with a gloss black on the hood instead of satin.

Either way, good job saving a del sol.

the pictures dont really show it well. in person the satin black looks good. and gloss black might have been better but for that i would have went to a body shop and i dont have that kind of money

thats because you are only looking at pictures. i still have the hood bra which will go back. and the stance was a little better cuz of cut springs. the hood was very spotty and nasty and the clear coat peeled off half of the trunk. so if you like cut springs and nasty looking body parts then you can say it looked better when i bought it.

It looks good so far. At least you rattle-canned the hood knowing its temporary. Thats a good quality sound system too.

ya. i know im gonna get some comments on the rattle canning but i cant afford body work and the clearcoat was peeled and paint was coming off. so it was buy a couple cans or leave it and i didnt want anything to start rusting. but everything likes there own things and honestly the gloss black car with satin black hood, roof and trunk looks good in person. pictures never do any cars justice.

anyhow I forgot to mention last week i did the timing belt, water pump, valve cover gasket/spark plug gaskets, spark plugs, cap, rotor, and valve adjustment. whole job cost just over a hundred bucks. also did some local dealing and traded some things for a pair of black housing headlights and amber corners. ill get some pics tomorrow.
heres a pic i never posted of the trunk

Do yourself a favor and don't run the hood bra, unless you're mortally attached to it. They have a tendency to cause uneven paint wear, and to pool water causing rust.

It's not just Honda hood bras that cause the problem, it's all hood bras, OEM or otherwise. I played hell fixing the damage after removing the Subaru OEM bra from my old Outback. I've always played hell fixing damage after removing any hood bra.

i hear ya. hood bras suck. like i said i only put it on for looks. it comes off and i wash the car and hood bra and store it til i want the look again. so most of the time its off. this bra actually damaged my hood and that added to the fact of why i took it off and repainted the hood.

so I decided to do a little bit today. The p.o. decided to ghetto rig an intake for the sol usgin an integra tube and filter. filter was nasty and the tube looked rediculous. I had some intake tubing laying around so I sprayed some krinkle black on it threw on a filter, came out pretty nice imo and was inexpensive to put together.
old intake. I also ordered some new goodies should be in this week. ill post pics when recieved

new intake on

and krinkle

i know there are gonna be a lot of comments made about the shift **** but honestly. f**k em. when it comes down to it mines original. And i wish the flowers werent so much maybe a little bit but it is what it is. anyways about the tires. they are 15x8 0 offset xxr 002s (no spacers) with 195/50/15 tires. they stick out a bit far IMO but the wheels came with the car so cant complain. I also fixed the rake it had so it sits more level.
also got some more pics of some things and feel free to bring on the comments.

and the new shift boot. yes its not a red stitch type r. why? because this isnt everyone elses car

Yea love the aggressive look of the tires. I'd like something like that for mine although alittle more flush.

Just razz'in ya about the ****. Takes big ***** to sport that so respect.

ya, id like a little less offset too so its a little more flush but what are ya gonna do right. i have been thinking about selling or trading them for some 16's with a little higher offset maybe around +15 to make it nice and flush. especially now with the car sitting level like it should.
and no worries. i am not worried about comments on the ****. i dont get bothered by comments. in fact i want people to comment. i like to know what people think. and im pretty surprised I this thread has over 1000 views but a handful of comments. i know theres not much here and the process is slow but man. o well. i appreciate the input

anyone else with input or are we all just window shoppers
