what is the best way to rebuild a car?
each person has there own way. a couple things that help are a big box of zip lock bags for bolts, sharpie to label the bags, a note book to write stuff down if you can't remember how thing go together, and a nice tool box with all the tools you need for each task you have to do.

Do you already have the car? Condition is everything. Assuming it needs everything....
1. Disassemble. Be aware you may break parts that are discontinued or difficult to find.
2. Clean, sand and or media blast. Are you going to bare metal or just a layer of paint?
3. Body work, sand, prime, repeat. Until body smooth.
4. Reassemble. Depending on the condition of the engine, suspension, etc, you may be putting on new parts or another drivetrain.
5. Debug and detail.
There are many degrees of 'redoing' a car. Some standards are higher than others, but I think we can agree it should be factory-ish.
If you have more questions, you are in over your head and should find a good mechanic friend or do tons of reading. Or save yourself the headache and get one that's been built already. After 6 years mine is 90% done, could just use more paint.

You can do a complete rebuild that includes body work and paint, motor and transmission rebuild, complete brake and suspension upgrade, new wheels and tires, new carpet, padding, and seats...or you can just fix what's about to brake and drive it.
