issue with running stock ecu
I want to run my engine on a stock p28. its a pretty much stock motor. d16a6 block z6 head. i've been running on a chipped p28 since shortly after i built the motor 2+ years ago, but it has a b16 base map on it and runs rich (went to pass smog and read 10.8-11.2 afr's at idle on their machine with a cat).
here's my issue.
car runs great with my chipped ecu, just pig rich. i get 250 miles per fill up regardless of how i'm driving (i run 92 octane only)
i had to use a stock p06 to pass deq, and the car actually ran pretty good, could feel a power loss, but didn't knock or ping. however the car wouldn't idle. it would get down close to 750 but would hunt up and down about 200 rpms.
today i cut the jumper on j1, which converted my chipped p28 back to stock, and the car felt like it ran a lot better but did the same idle hunt deal, but this time also threw a code 9 the second i turned on my key on. but car still ripped to red line, vtec still engaged, didn't bog or hit limp mode.
i replaced the jumper on j1 and put my ecu back in, car starts right up, no codes, no CEL's, no idle issue.
i don't know if parts make a difference, but here's what all is in/on my motor.
a6 block, stock internals
z6 head, stock internals
skunk2 intake manifold
ebay header
b18a IACV
b18a2 (obd1) throttle body with map sensor on the throttle body. fitv is closed off and coolant lines bypassed.
also have a throttle body spacer
2.75" short ram intake
crx hf oil cooler
high flow cat
2.5" cat back
and i actually swapped an si body harness and engine harness into my car for ease of the mpfi swap, as well as bought a jumper harness

+1... Id get a tune for a stock map. There really isnt another way. You'll be paying a couple hundred now, to save a few thousand through the life of the vehicle in MPG... Heck if you get it dyno tuned you might even gain some HP
My question is why cant i run a stock ecu? I have a b16 map because i didnt know as much when i built the motor and at the time was detonating in my top end and when climbing hills. Turns out my belt was advanced a tooth. Now it is half a tooth retarded due to needing a 105 tooth belt, or an adjustable cam gear. Guess ill just re flash my ecu, still doesnt explain why my car wont run right with a stock ecu though
