Default Type R motor into LS help.

Hi all, I am looking to swap a 97 spec type r b18 from hmotors into my integra in the near future.

IF THIS HAS BEEN THOROUGHLY COVERED BEFORE PLEASE STOP AND REDIRECT ME. (tried searching with minimal results)

My question is this - When swapping in the new motor I believe it to be smart to replace some of the parts on the motor as well such as timing belt, head gasket, oil and water pumps, dizzy new plugs and wires, clutch and flywheel etc.

Do you guys know of anything I would be over looking that is important? Any help is much appreciated.

If it were me:

-timing belt/water pump/drive belts
-plugs/wires/cap/rotor
-clutch kit/flywheel (or resurface)
-any seals like the crank or rear main

Ditto the above^^^ any seals you can replace while engine is out.

I would probably replace the rad and heater hoses, thermostat and the vac. lines along with the fuel filter. 94

I would replace the above. I would not split the engine to change the head gasket.

Why might it not be smart to change the head gasket with a new OEM one?

No reason to open the motor up if it's not broken! "If it ain't broke, don't fix it!" I would replace the peripherials like everyone else stated though.

The half shaft, Shift Linkage and Axles are interchangeable right? If I order from HMO over JHP I can use those off the LS motor to the ITR?

because it's a solid piece of steel

if a HG fails on a b18c you have bigger problems than the gasket

Got to agree with the above, no need to do the HG unless there is a problem. 94

What kind of ECU and harnesses would you be running on the Type R into LS body?

If the ls is running fine why not tear the itr apart and rebuild everything for high power torque etc

hmotorsonline.com is a great company, their motors vary from 20k miles to 35k miles depending on which motor you buy. i bought my F20B swap from them and just changed the timing belt

What harness and ECU would you have to use to make it run properly?

My Integra runs borderline, it has the thermostat error code P0118 i think it is? So starting it is sometimes difficult, however the colder weather we are having seems to be helping alot. I have no intentions to build the motor at all. It is my daily driver and I will only use it for daily commutes, a few autox's and 1-2 road course events a year. So i'd like to keep that wonderful Honda reliability. My only other plans for it are a simple intake and exhaust (no plans to get power trust me) haha its just that I have an AEM V2 on it now and with the rain and snow looming I need a new one, and my factory exhaust has a crack in it that my friend has slightly welded up but still is wack, figure i'd let the Type R motor sing a little louder.

Other than that I will be striping almost everything out of the car behind the front seats and a lot out from under the hood to scrap off some weight and give me more space to carry stuff around when needed.

Bottom line I have no plans to build it because I have an Evo 8 currently putting down about 450awhp and im going with that platform and want to build that for the 1320. Which wont be cheap. I just want a fast daily to dick around in while I save up. Once the motor comes in I will start a mild build thread documenting what I do with the Teg and throw up some pics of the Teg and Evo.

You can reuse your ls harness and wire up vtec yourself.

Slick deal, thanks.
I kinda figured that was possible because a buddy of mine did that in his civic. I just did not know if it would work the same in this situation. I will be able to run the jdm ecu that comes with car to the jdm engine with my usdm LS engine harness as long as I wire in my own v-tec

x2. Those would be most important no doubt. Steve at hmo will provide you with quality parts in every aspect of your choice power plant tho so i would just play it by ear and replace accordingly.

Just a quick question tho, why not opt for the 98 spec R motor?
