I got some steam, seeping from under the hood close to the passenger side windshield. I can smell 'that smell', you know of rubber/overheating smell.
Engine temp stays normal, 1/2 way up.
I'm thinking, and that's where you get in trouble, heater core.
My questions: is that somewhat expensive?
Is there a way to plug the hose, so the water doesn't flow in there?
I live in Louisiana, so heat isn't all that essential, plus the car has close to 300,000 miles.
Advice?

You may want to check that your heater hose didn't burst open or has some sort of leak causing loss of coolant.
