New to Honda - B18 Engine Questions
Hey all,
I've been looking around for a new car after the old one (88 mazda) decided to blow up on me. There's a guy selling a 1997 Integra with a B18B1 swap. Me, having never owned a honda before, have no idea about this engine. A quick search on google turned up that it's non vtec, was used in Integra's as well as all the other stuff (compression ratio, displacement blah blah) Here's my questions. How readily does this engine respond to aftermarket parts? It's pretty much stock besides an intake and some sway bars, so I want to add some more power to it, but am not sure of the best way to go about it. One option that seemed interesting was a Jackson Racing Supercharger kit for sale locally. Only issue with it is that the seller says it only works on B16 engines and the B18C5. Does this make it incompatible with the B1 engine in the Integra I'm looking at? Or is it better to just avoid superchargers alltogether? Obviously I should do more research on it myself, but I figured while I was doing that I'd give the fine folks on Honda-Tech a chance to help a newbie out.
Essentially anything you can tell me about this engine and the platform in general would be awesome.
Thanks

A 1997 integra, assuming not gsr or type R comes with a B18B.
I/H/E wont net you much HP.
Best bang for your buck is to boost the stock motor on a conservative tune and make decent power.

People have turbo charged the non vtec ls motors cause of its longer gear ratios to go with the boost and the lower compression it has which is more ideal for a turbo setup.
i would go with a gsr either way.
You seem like your new to the whole moding cars thing. My first Honda happened to be a beat up integra with a b1 in it. To this day I wish I never sold it. B18b1s have the same if not more potential for power. Intake/header/exsauhst really dosent do any thing to any cars besides v8s.
So don't let that put you down.
There's always the option to go ls-v this would be taking the b18b1 bottom end and putting a gsr head on it. It give you the tourque from the stroke of the bottom end and the top end from the head.
Personally I'd say get it as long as you thing the car its self is worth it. I you get it for a good price. Drive it for a year while you learn, you should be able to turn around ad sell it for te same price if not more.
Another thing you can do to make the car fast is put a gsr transmission in it. This will give you instant acceleration gains.
