Default Just ordered swap, need help on which header/exhaust combo would fit properly?

Vehicle: 99 EJ6 Hatchback

Current Setup: D16y7 with eBay no name 4-2-1 header, 98 EJ8 catalytic converter, no name 3" piping, and 00 EM1 muffler.

I wanted to start over and do things right this time, within a reasonable price. Not looking to spend $800 on a header or anything like that.

Swap on the way: 97 JDM B18C Type R (complete)

Now for the time being, what will I need to mod to make my current exhaust setup work with the ITR header? I know it's going to run kind of crappy but for now I need to get my car back on the road for work.

Once I have enough money saved up, I do plan on upgrading my exhaust system. I would prefer getting a setup that would mimic stock performance. I plan on having a cat and stock muffler so would the EM1 muffler be a wise choice to keep or get a better stock muffler? Same goes with the cat from the 98 EJ8. Should I keep it or is there a better option with better fitment. I'm going to replace my piping to 2.5" or is the 3" way too much for this engine?

FYI, I don't have to pass an emissions test in my state.

Also is there any gain upgrading to the 98' 4-1 ITR header?

3" is way to big if your going n/a. Usually 3" would be for turbo engines. 2.25 would be a good pipe size, just make sure the pipes are mandrel bent for the best possible flow. "crush" pipe can kink and be more restrictive.

As for muffler choice, I can't help you there. My car is built for the track, so thre is no cat involved. The louder, the better for me, lol.

Good luck with your swap, I hope you enjoy it!!

98 4-1 ITR Header
Highflow cat or adjustable test pipe

Maricio

theres plenty of high polished over priced exhaust systems out there..

The option I took was a kit and I chose magnaflow for my resonator and muffler.
I would go 2.5" for your NA swap

^^
These come with all hardware, flanges and hangers

Heres my magnaflow muffler

Thanks for the quick responses.

@ JC_1118

I figured 3" would be too big for N/A. Did not know about the bend type and it's affects. I'll keep that in mind.

@ pennies_hatchie

I take it the 98-01 ITR 4-1 header is the same length as the 96-97. Hopefully, I can find a good deal on one.

@ EsotericImage

I just found out that the 98 cat I got for free way back was gutted inside, so basically it's a test pipe I'm assuming. I googled some info and it seems the header is a bit long for my setup and some shortening will have to be done on the piping for now. That link you sent me, is that just basic piping? It groups it as 92-99 and I don't think EG/EJ coupes/sedans/hatches have the same piping design.

Idk as far as coupes and sedans but i can tell you the from cat back eg hatch and ek hatch piping is same. The flanges from stock eg/ek to stock b series header will not bolt up they are off by roughly 45 deg, and the stock piping gasket at flanges will not bolt up when using stock b series header. I am currently running a full pipe set from ek hatch on my eg hatch without cat and it was Perfect fit other than being about 3/8" to short and above flange prob. I am running it on a stock ls (exhaust is now moddified to fit and flanges turned) my only complaint is this set up with no cat is a tad raspy and tad ricey for my liking( but i am working on making my own with hand made setup 2.5" header back with 2 in line highflow cats to help keep raspyness down

theyre all the same.. sedans, coupes..

the hatch piping is the same, but the kit is configured for sedans/coupes and will have to be cut..

as far as mating up to your header, your exhaust shop knows what to do. I do beleive the kit has the flange to mate your header so everything fits the 1st time.
