so i am new to the Honda scene. i usually be working on old schools and American cars. however i recently said i needed a change and went and grabbed something that i think is a great make Honda did. The 94 CD5. i didn't kno a whole lot so i ended up with only the lx model which has the f22 b2. is this motor no good?? i see a few discussions but they seem to run off bashing instead of answering. lol. i would like to turbo kit it and all that stuff as well. suggestions??

F22B2 is a good platform for boost. Low compression and iron sleeves.... The week point is the OEM piston ring lands. However, there are aftermarket pistons you can purchase for a decent price to swap them out.

Anyone bashing the F22B2 would ether be running a torqueless B series or an H series. They would also have no idea what they are talking about!

There are quite a few healthy Hp boosted F series builds around.

What are your goals and budget? You gotta pay to play! Reliable HP doesn't come cheap!

i couldn't AGREE MORE. hp isn't something you can grab at walmart.

and yea a lot of people say b series or why not put the h 22 in it. well i don't like to be like everyone else other like me. i would like to get another f22 block abduction just build it up from ground up with the h heads. from wat i been lookin at it will slap on quick and really bump torque up. i like my new whip for she tho. i think vtec is over rated not to mention pointless for wat i am about to do lol. my budget is none Bcuz as i said i agree. i need the best also lol. i am a Leo afterall.. Ima diesel mechanic so budget isn't set just gonna throw as much as possible throughout time

Actually if you are going boost and want a head upgrade. I would suggest that you go with an F22A1-6 (PT3) head, it drops onto the F22B2 block without any issues. Then maybe run an H22/H23 upper plenum on the F22A4/6 lower intake manifold. However, with a boosted setup the F22B2 head will work. If you stick with the stock B2 head you could do an F23 intake manifold swap.

Putting an H head on the F block will not bump up tq. It drops the compression ratio, it requires some modification to the oil return ports. As well the combustion chamber and the cylinder bores are different diameters. Better off with the F22A* (PT3) head. It flows just as well as an H, and with some work can be made to flow even better (300+ CFM).

As for not having the DOHC adjustment ability. There are quite a few aftermarket cams that will give you good power out of this old SOHC F series.

VTEC is something that a lot of people just want becuase they think it sounds cool. They don't even understand what it is or how it works. It has it's place!

The theory and practice of engine building is pretty much universal, old school or new. If you have been working on old school stuff. It shouldn't take you long to catch on to the import stuff.

Any specific help that you may need. I will be more than willing to help you out if I can.

lol... I actually just baked a B series head @ 250° for 30 a few weeks ago to install a set of copper alloy (bronze) valve guides.

They were referring to how you go about replacing the valve guides in aluminum cylinder head.

The easiest way is to heat the head up to temp and press/punch the old guides out. Then you reheat the head and insert the new guides. The guides will go in better if they have been chilled in the freezer. It all has to do with the expansion and contraction of metals @ certain temperatures. Heat expands (larger holes) and cold contracts (smaller guides).
