tire size question
right now i have 205 40 r17 tires on my civic i want to put 15s on it to get it a little lower to the ground. 2 in smaller wheels will drop it an inch as long as the tire sidewall profile stays the same.
40% of 205 is 82mm but i went to tires rack .com and couldnt find any tires that fit a 15in wheel with a sidewall of 82mm or less they where all more. tire width dosnt really concern me as long as it fits most standard 7in or 8in wheels.
so what are the standard lowprofile tire sizes and is there one that fits what im looking for in a decent price range??

its a 98 coupe with 1.5-2in drop (cant tell was there when i baught it) i just want it lower now and smaller tires for when i save up for coilovers.
195 45 15 where the smallest but only one tire was availible and i dont realy want a size thats that hard to replace.

Tire diameter affects the odometer and speedometer accuracy.
Ignoring that, the smaller diameter tires won't have the same load rating, which might be dangerous to drive on.
the recommended tire sizes for your car are 195/55/15 or 205/50/15. Im running a 195/50/15 on my si wheels and it throw my speedometer off a little bit but im pretty slammed and a 195/55 rubs. I would never use a 195/45/15 though... :/
your 205/40R17 is 23.5" in diameter, just like a 195/55R15. The 195/45R15 tire size you referenced is too small and does not have sufficient load capacity to be safe / durable. You'll need to go the lowering spring / coilover route to lower the car.
