JDM tech in orlando experiences?
I'm considering buying an engine from them and was wondering how honest/reliable they are to deal with.
Wondering if anyone here has bought from them, and what their overall experience was like.
I could order from someplace like hmotorsonline, but the 300 dollar shipping makes them a bit more expensive, whereas with JDM tech I can just go pick it up.
appreciate any help with making this big purchase.
thx

I bought my swap from Honda Kings in Miami and had it shipped. I was very happy with my purchase. I also bought a '96 ITR brake setup from JDM Orlando and had no problems.

Oh?
well if that is the case, then they are still in the running, lol
I would think that they get the same engines that hmotorsonline gets...right?
I mean, they shouldnt be higher mileage or anything like that?
Thinking about it more, I'm thinking how could they screw up an engine when they arent taking it apart...just putting it on the warehouse floor till someone comes along to buy it?
thx for the heads up!
I did just notice that hmotors seemed to have raised their prices a little...making it well over a 300 dollar difference....
Now hmotors guarantees all the sensors will work, etc....I'll have to make sure that JDM tech offers the same
Trending Topics
hmmm, looks like they dont guarantee the sensors like hmotors does.
and I've heard the crank angle sensors are often damaged.
cost and trouble of sourcing just that one sensor, much less any others that might be damaged, might make it worth the extra money for hmotors...
plus, hmotors seems to imply lower mileage motors...in the 35K range
while JDM tech seems to imply 60K?\
ah well, more to research

all from jdm tech!
if you go to jdm tech in person. u can make a perfect motor. wen i bought my brother b20 it was super clean but map and couple sensor were broken they swap them from other motor for free. his b20 has about 15k since we put it (srt8 from there warehouse to car motor was never tooken apart) been riding amazing
they say 60k but wen u go in person they have motor with alot less miles than that. my h22 i picked up only had 25k miles super fckn clean
All motors are not created equal. Think Japan tsunami. You could get a motor that's been submerged in water, but "looks" fine. True, JDM Tech allows you the opportunity to look at the motor, but from H-Motor's you don't need to.
I know the biggest determinant is usually price, but give Steve a call and talk to him about your situation. He's super helpful and may help you out. Again, I also recommend Honda Kings down south. They delivered mine to a local warehouse.

I wish i would of went to JDM Tech. but I went to JDM Orlando which is off Pine Ave. He had 5 b20's to choose from. And I hand picked the motor the was the cleanest. But come to find out rings were fried and valveseals were toast. I spend $531 and it was the worst expierence. Stay away from them PLEASE!!!

It was clearly JDM tech, and not JDM orlando
here is the website the guy posted from his ebay purchase
http://www.jdmtechmotors.com/
that is the same website I was looking at engines on, lol.
after reading that, I would never risk my hard earned cash with JDM tech
I bought a '99-'00 B20 longblock from JDM Tech in March of this year. I was referred by mechanic that has purchased multiple engines from this place and claimed there wasn't any problems in the past. He's worked on tons of Honda's in the Orlando area, I figured it was a safe bet going that route rather than ordering online and having the motor shipped from H Motors Online and could save some money on shipping.
I had my mechanic look at multiple B20s that were in stock and we decided on choosing the cleanest and newest one there (who wouldn't, right?). So it ended up being $905 out the door for a '99-'00 spec B20.
They have a "30 day start-up warranty" just like any other engine supplier and say the motors have 35k - 50k miles on them average. How do you really know there is 35k miles on a motor you imported from Japan? There's no proof of the motor having X amount of miles.
The car ran fine after the motor replacement but it randomly wouldn't start after a couple start ups. Then I starting getting random power loss where the car would just suddenly loose power and then after a little bit come back like nothing happened. It also idled like crap. I replaced a ton of parts when the motor went in including timing belt, water pump, all new belts, gaskets, new oem NGK spark plugs, kept original OE spark plug wires and also did a valve adjustment.
I then replaced the spark plugs again and changed out the wires, no go. I changed the distributor cap and rotor and also the fuel pump. This helped the starting problem but the car would still loose power and then it would come back. It felt like a misfire but there was no CEL or the normal noise that you'd expect from a cylinder misfire. It also vibrated like crazy when accelerating and was running extremely rough.
I pulled the spark plug wires while the car was running one at a time and when I got to cylinder 3 the car didn't do anything. Turns out the cylinder head had 6 burnt valves and I had the head completely redone. According to the machine shop, there was not enough significant damage to replace the valves so they reused them and machined them to new.
Now, the car runs better than when the motor was first swapped. There's tons of power and no misfire whatsoever. I believe there was something wrong with the valves all along just like the post in the orlando forums.
I wouldn't buy an engine from JDM Tech again. I'd either have a reptuable engine building rebuild my engine or get the engine from H Motors Online. I've never heard of a problem from there, ever. JDM Tech is a hit or miss.

I purchased a sohc motor from JDM Tech and there were no problems. Oil pan was a little dented, but otherwise no issues at all. I live approximately 1hr away and they delivered the motor for $50.
I will say a local company will be much easier to deal with if there is an issue. Plus you can hand pick your motor for whatever that is worth.
I have also purchased a motor from Hmotors that was fine too. Although more expensive plus shipping. Your choice!

A friend of mine bought a motor at JDM TECH 4 years ago, worked perfect no problems. They gave tech support for the minor issues like what manifold to use. Two years later I bought a D15B and had no problems. Nice people.
I've heard stories too but no proof to back up the stories.

forgive me for thinking your review may not be all that unbiased...
How about you prove that your friend had their engine running for four years?
See how that works? Not so easy to do is it?
Fact is, I've now read several negative experiences with that company from people who, so far as I can tell, wouldnt benefit in any way from telling their stories. They are just trying to inform the public so that others dont make the same mistake.
why would anyone risk so much money on a questionable company...when a very reputable company is available as an alternative?
For a few hundred more, I can pretty much guarantee that I wont have problems with an hmotorsonline engine, and wont have to suffer through diagnosis, removing or rebuilding, waiting, etc....
arent you trying to sell a jdm tech engine? lol

I hear a lot of stories about these guys with no proof on your end, the storyteller, to back it up which makes me wonder how distorted the story got before it even got to you. Another thing is, how do you know the installer/purchaser even knew what they were doing at all. Are they telling you the whole story? I've been to JDM TECH twice, my experience there buying my motor and seeing my friend buy a motor were good transactions. That's all I'm saying.
Have you ever been there? Probably not. Would I respect your opinion on heresay. No.
I will believe the post on Orlando Forums cause he backs up his horror story. Sad to see that happen so close to home.

Purchased a B20 from there in March of 2010. He had a killer deal on them, $450. Swapped it in to my DC2. Did everything needed to be done for it to work. To date, never had a problem. Roughly 50k miles since.
You've seen my motor running on the video then, started right up. I could make another video of my friends motor running also no problem.

did you read the links earlier in this thread?
this isnt me telling a story.
Go to the link, and read about it from the horses mouth.
You apparently got a good motor.
I'm really happy for you (although apparently you are selling it?).
However, I would rather not "roll the dice" with that kind of money...not too mention the extra work I'd have to do if the engine turned out to have bent valves or some other problem.
Anyways, I'm done, as I've already made my decision.

My point earlier was people always said they've HEARD stories. I don't want to hear stories I want proof. Proof like jdmh22eg2 had. Not from a storyteller. I'm not putting a gun to your head your the one with the decision. No need to have a man period but get some scented panty liners and do a write up on it.
