B18C Timing Belt/Drive Belts OEM Question
So I just had my Timing Belt/Water Pump service done at a local acura dealer on my B18C and after it was all done i looked at the new belts and noticed that they said mitsubishi on them but had the correct honda part numbers. Then on this website http://www.acuraoemparts.com/delray/jsp/srchrslts.jsp the parts are indicated as made by mitsubishi. Are honda belts made by mitsubishi or something and if not why is that considered oem parts. Should i be worried about the quality of the belts that were put in. Also the only reason i went to a dealer was because i got a 20% discount so it ended up costing as much as a side shop.
In Japanese...
Mitsu BOSHI = "Three stars"
Mitsu BISHI = "Three diamonds".
MitsuBOSHI is a totally different company from MitsuBISHI.
Mitsuboshi has been a Honda OEM for decades.
Not all OEM parts are made specifically by Honda. They use coil packs and sensors from Denso, plugs from NGK, etc. You have nothing to worry about, the dealership won't put inferior quality parts on. With the timing belt service, you should be more concerned about the quality of the tensioner and timing belt though. Those are the parts that if they fail, you can grenade a motor. However, you're in good hands getting that done at the dealership.
Thanks guys. The belts that I can see actually say mistuboshi. So then is there a difference between a mitsuboshi belt p72-004 and a Honda belt p72-004
very high quality belts. as good if not better than goodyear & gates
on the multiple jdm engines i've imported all still had those oe belts and all were in usable condition...even at being 10+ years old
that said and being a big fan of OE parts....i would still price compare those vs a goodyear or gates. if the price was close i could see it, if it's 2-3x more, not worth it.
i put 75k on the last itr engine i blew up. had goodyear gatorback belts. when i parted the engine for ebay i examined the belts. no where near shot with 75k miles on them.
the only one i'm really stuck on oem with is the timing belt

"P72-004" isn't a Honda part number. You're looking for a sequence that contains three parts, so the number would be something like "xxxxx-P72-004", where the x'es are numbers. Take a better look at your belts.

Piggy backing on this thread: hope you guys don't mind but I'm in the process of replacing my timing belt, water pump, belts, and VC gasket. Is OEM parts from dealership the way to go or is there a reliable vendor who sells a timing belt and water pump kit for a 00 GSR.? I have been Reffered to a vendor, ProPartsUSA, who has the kit for a very good price. Any suggestions on where I should get my parts from? thank you.
Thanks for the reply, I been researching a lot of different vendors and trying to pin point the actual differences since I always here that OEM is just a name youre purchasing. There's a lot of options out there so I'm trying to see if I can make a better decision by asking fellow forum members..
oem stuff is made by whoever they decide to contract it out to. you can find out who makes it, but it's not to say they are the same quality or materials they use to make oem parts for honda.
the difference between an oem honda belt and a gates belt is about $20. you gotta figure out if it's worth it to you.

Auto manufactures do not make every part that is on their cars-this goes for ALL manufacturers
Honda/Acura T-belts are made by MitsuBOSHI, most of their electronics (coils, alternators, sensors) are made by either Denso, Hitachi, TEC and Keihin (for newer Honda's) These companies also make theses same parts for Nissan, DSM, Toyota, etc. Honda brake hydraulics are made by Nissin.
Same goes for BMW, Mercedes, and VW/Audi- Electonics are usually made by Bosch. and most brake components (electronic and hydraulic) are made by either ATE or TRW.
So dont worry about the quality of your belt, its the same as was installed at the factory
@ Kyden-The reason you pay more for a Honda belt than when you buy it direct from Mitsuboshi is because of the supply train not quality or construction. Honda pays for the belt since they dont manufacture it and like any business they mark up whatever they sell to the consumer to make a profit.
