1991 Honda Accord EX Volume Control / Stero problem
Hey guys, new to forums but anyway,
Just got my brothers old 91 accord, and well after now a few days or finally getting to drive it and get a little used to it, I started turning the radio on etc, but noticed that the volume control switch is sort of either A.) Broken or B.) Works but has some issues.
Now I have come up with the problem but can't seem to figure how to fix it. Everytime I try to hit the volume switch up or down the volume doesn't rise or decrease. So I thought it was broken but after a lot of toying with it trying to up down etc, it sorta worked but still hard to change the volume. Another problem is when / while im slowing down or come to a complete stop, the radio either DIMS really to really low, or gets really loud.
So if anyone has any suggestions on how to fix this problem would be great help! thanks.
Here are some specs,
Year : 1991
Make : Honda
Model : Accord
Trim : EX
Transmission : Automatic

With the ignition key OFF, cycle the volumn **** on the radio from Min to Max quickly 10 or 15 times. Sometimes the contacts in the switch get dirty and this will help to clean them.
The dimming thing.....is the alternator belt tight. It could be a drop in volts in the electrical system due to a loose alternator belt. Check the electrolite level in your battery and the state of charge in the battery with a hydrometer. This can be found at any auto parts store. It looks like a coolant tester but is used for batterys.

Brad,
I tried the **** thing didn't really help, but what i did do was take out the stero / radio outta the dash and unplugged the wiring and cleaned it a bit dusted it off but not much luck. But I have came to a conclusion that wiring is mostly like messing up since everytime I'm at high speeds say 40-50 and I slow down the volume drops greatly to almost not being able to help. Now im no expert in wiring the stero and what not so I'm wondering if it's a hard job or if anyone has any suggestions.

As he said, unscrew any panels you might need to get off so you can get to the back of the Unit, check the wiring see if any of the cables are messed up or they aren't connected to he stereo all the way. if thats not it, check your alternator (personally i dont know how to check it, so get someone who does to do it). Something that helped me alot, was getting a voltage stabilizer. my headlights used to dim alot when using anything that required electricity, so that helped alot to stop it.
