Typically it is a bad thing...but you can always swap, right?

Ya, but I need the POS to last me a few years while I learn to drive on track and get the safety, suspension, brakes down right. Hoping it'll make it 2 years at least. 85000 miles, can't be too bad.

they have a kickass rod/stroke...the 2nd best d-series motor (2nd to some weird jdm something). Anyways you can rev the hell outa that thing with a head that flows.

Here is an old sound clip of my all motor D15B7/vtec race car...i rev'd that thing to 9000rpms on a stock block w/ ZC pistons. :-D

enjoy

liam821: Could you provide more info? I have a d15b7 and I was going to give up on it and purchase a d16z6. However, I am all about the "building up" idea.

What have you done with yours?

I had a GREAT offer for a Turbo setup, do you have any experience with d15d7's and turbo?

i'm thinking some mods = NAAWWWZ It's very possible to hit 15s with the regular mods (and a different tranny) and excellent driving.

Why are so many people into Nitrous? It doesn't make any sence to me. Sure it makes you fast for a little while, but as soon as you run out you're stock again and everything else on the road blows right past you.

because it's an easy way to say your car is faster than it actualy is. In a sense (my sense) it's cheating. Not only are you lying to yourself but you're lying to others as well.

Oh, I totally agree with the cheating, but why do it to begin with? One day you'll run out of juice and get OWNED!

Well the b7 motor isnt a bad motor. It does have some down sides. The crank jorunals are smaller then the d16 motors. The d16 shares the same size crank journals as the b16/b18 motors...larger = strong. The rods in the b7 are SMALLER then the z6 (and much smaller then the b16/b18). They are just dinky.

But lets look at the good side, they have an awesome rod/stroke so you can rev the hell out of them. I was pushing my b7 to 9000rpms with stock rods without so much of a hickup.

So what to do? If your goal is all motor sohc, sticking with the b7 isnt a bad idea. It can easily handle high rpm use (more so then a z6). And making a b7/vtec is as easy as swapping heads.

But if turbo is your drug of choice, then ditch the b7 and step up to a z6. The b7 will work but i wouldnt trust it much past 8-9psi. The z6 on the other hand i have pushed to 15+psi stock (including head gasket). Ive spiked 17-18psi a few times without damage. I run daily 10-12psi on my stock z6 block and am totally loving it. It might not be *really* fast but its fast enough for a high 12 low 13 in the 1/4. Im pretty happy with that.

As for my all motor b7 motor...its no more. Its just parts in a box. The old setup was b7 block, ZC pistons, full JG pro series z6 (vtec) head with all the bells and whistles. With the right supporting mods and tuning JG said it was possible to make 180-190whp. Im guessing compression was around 13:1. We ran it on 118 octane leaded race fuel. It was in our 89 crx.

I think we are going to swap in a stock z6 motor in the crx now and make a homemade turbo kit...we will see how it goes.

So i have a B7, Im looking for a little bit more power would a turbo running about 8 psi be safe? This way with the turbo i would be able to use it when i buy another motor. My b7 seems in really good condition, 170-175lbs on all cylinders (which honda says is very good for this motor) So what do you guys think could i boost safely for awhile?

most likely it should hold 8psi..but not much more. Turbo it and save for a d16z6 so when ya blowup the b7 u can swapin the z6.

6500 rpm is the stock ECU limiter.

6800 rpm if you use a P28 ECU and ignore the CEL's.

I thought it could go to 6800 stock, and 7200 with the p28. Bone, isn't that also on your web page? Under the RPM shift tables.

I was using the P28 @ 6800 when I made those tables. Look at the dyno sheets for the D15B7, plop at 6800 rpm.
