Default Question about valve clearances on crower 403s

Certain aspects of the Crower 403s has been covered to death however I have a specific question that I have been searching here other forums and google for over the last week. Ill keep it brief.

I have an ls block in my hatch and Crower 403s, I am trying to lash the valves but my clearances say .006 IN .008 EX HOT. I've never adjusted valves hot before and i know this should never be done and I called Crower they said adjust it 5 thousandths less than the HOT clearances with the engine cold.

What Crower tech guy told me:
.006-.005=.001 IN and .003 EX

What my gut tells me:
There's no ****ing way that is a safe valve clearance.

Any help guys?

*correction +.005 since metal expands which would make it .011 IN .013 EX.

That just seems way too loose to me....

I have only seen those valve lash numbers as cold, not hot. Just checked the Crower catalog to confirm.
quote (catalog page 101 for 62403-2 Cams):

B18A/B SERIES NON-VTEC - TWIN CAM
Note: These cams use .006" intake (cold), .008" exhaust valve lash (cold).

thats the digital copy of the cam card. thats why im confused as well because, like you ive only seen those cold. i checked crower catalog and called both said those must be the clearances when hot.

your answer here.

Oh, and BTW, people have lives you know. Not everyone is on here, all the time, checking for questions like yours to pop up and answer your questions. give it a few days....its not like your adding superduper cams to an LS. They're just 403's.....

well you know not all of us have super duper engine builds like your so that we can go and be condescending on other peoples posts. maybe i dont have amazing super duper cams like you may have, but i want to make sure they are installed and function correctly.

the reason why i keep asking even after ^ post is because if .006 .008 were the lash specs, then why would crower list them as hot? aluminum expands and the clearances get tighter. so if i adjust them to .006 .008 cold they will be out of spec hot. i.e. out of spec i.e. potential damage. thats why.

sorry, but if I came off as a *****, I do apologize. 403 cams are cams yes, but they are just like a street cam. I wouldn't put too much effort in those cams because gains are minimal because of the B18a/b-b20b/z engines. If you were building a mega super build, then yes, spend the time and figure out the specs. I would verify with Crower on their suggestions of valve lash. You can also as the bigger engine builders here or even your local tuner. It would be a wasted effort for you to go through so much, and end up with nothing. I was in the same boat as you. well, not exactly, but near identical. I was running a stock LS with Pr3 pistons and ITR IM, wannabe RMF header, and goodies. At the end, I ended up with like, 142whp peak. With the 403 cams, I was expecting like 150-160whp. Guess what? I ended up with like 148whp peak. BUT, I gained 10-18whp midrange. And that was with a .006-.008 lash.(Cold) Yeah, you want to do it right, but a wasted effort is wasted time. I don't want you to waste time bro. Just giving you a heads up.

Wow that's all you got out of them? Damn, I mean I've seen crower 403s with p30 or pct pistons put out 160whp so I know they weren't gonna be Jdm vtak fasts yO! I knew that when I bought them I just wanted them to make usable power. Did you have your head milled down at all? Thinking of taking .03 off to jump compression to 10 something to help those cams make some moar power
