Temp gauge went to H will sitting idle, no smoke, made bubbling sound after shutting down the day before. Needed anitfreeze, added water. No leaks under the car, fans working properly. Need to drive 5 hours out of town tomorrow? What could be the problem?

 

Sounds like a bad thermostat, Change it and flush the system.

 

Might be a bad radiator cap also.
