Default Sneaky Alternator Swap???

So I picked up this Alternator http://www.summitracing.com/parts/SUM-G1667A
READ BOTTOM OF ADD.
This Alternator bolts right on to my GSR. I bought it thinking I was going to have to get a Pigtale and modify the 4pin connector on to my gsr harness. Well come to findout this Alternator is a "Self Regulating Alternator". Meaning the only wire I need will go from the Alternator to the Battery. Now are "Self Regulating Alternators", calibrated for there specific applecation or do they internally read the Voltage at the Battery and adjust Output from there

Only people who have knowledge of Electronics preferrably Alternators need to involve. Meaning I don't need comments like; you should just get the right Alternator...Thanks

From reading the spec of this alternator it is designed for a 12v system and "self regulating alternators" will control voltage internally. You should not have an issue with this alternator, however I would recommend datalogging volts to make sure it is not spiking at high rpms. I have personally ran alternators that are self regulating to simplify the wire harness on all my race setups.

most likely it's just a couple diodes in there which will kill current to the windings which ultimately kills generation above X volts. i'd recommend doing what julio said and at least use a multimeter to see what X volts is.. but i'm **** like that. 15volts is about as high as you'd ever want to see.. depending on amperage you'll start to see things fail beyond that. but nothing is ever 12v. ideally it should be around 13.0 running and above idle to be relevant for street use.
