Default converter heat shield

im dealing with a rattling heat shield. i bought clamps for it as well as a metal tie down just in case, i was thinking about getting it welded back together but i feared that i would be told that it cant be done or that i should just get a new converter. what i want to know is if i should just remove and what the consequences would be? should i buy some sort of heat sleeve for it?

the heat shield keeps the heat inside the cat, which promotes quick startup times. The cat doesnt work at all until its really hot. So yes, you need it there. It likely cant be welded back on. What we do in my shop is use straps to strap it back up or self tapping screws.
