I was driving down the road on my way to class....there was a dump truck up in the distance, not too far ahead but kinda...anyways, i was in the right lane and so was he, he then proceded to put his left turn signal on and make a lane change. So i thought sweet i dont have to go around him. But little did i know that he did this so that he could then come back across my lane to make a wide turn into a driveway on the right side. I did what i could to stop because there was a car next to me and i had no where to go. So in the end i slid 20 ft or so and nailed his back tire that was prolly as tall as my car. major damage on my driver side quarter panel and the car bounced up on the curb and bent my wheel and axle at like a 45 degree angle. My friend was in the car and hit his head and had to go the hospital just to make sure nothing was wrong, he was ok and i remember reaching over to try to hold him back cuz i didnt remember if he had his belt on or not. I walked away with seatbelt marks on my shoulder and kinda sore. We both fucked up my dash and no air bags were deployed. I found that weird. I know this happened today but what should i do if the thing gets totalled? that car was my baby... same car, different car? For anyone else that has had an accident what did you do and how long does it usually take to resolve insurance? I have been driving for over 5 years and never had an accident so i am just looking for some input... I would of had some pictures but i didnt have my dig camera on me when we went to go look at it after the hospital...

I got into 3 accident in one year.....

2 of them where totaled

Having a friend in the car when it happen really hurts inside, because you know they could have died or got serously hurt

lucky for me none of my friends were in the car when the last 2 happened

for the insurance part, don't worry about it
all they are going to do is get your side of the story and person you hit

then they are going to ask if you wanna use your insurance to pay for it
which mean your insurance right will increase

The speed limit thing, i was prolly doin like low 50s in a 45. i wasnt doing anything really stupid, and i had some time to stop and did my best to stop as could be seen by the marks on the ground.
That car was my "money pit" and i feel like its gone even though i dont know if it is totalled or not yet.
The car is still only a car and i am still glad that yes no one was actually hurt. But this did teach me a lesson to be that much more careful when someone else is in the car because i feel bad now and my friend is ok, i dont know how i would feel if he actually did get hurt, i guess thats why i reached over to hold him back when it happened.

 

I can relate to this.. But like you said, the important thing is that everyone walked away ok. Good luck with the insurance. I hope that everything will be taken care of. Again, I am sorry to hear about what happened

 

DAMN Si's FOR NOT HAVING ABS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
My 00' Si (read sig) got wrecked about 2 weeks ago, and when I went back to look at the scene, I noticed that when my brakes locked up my car slid into the next lane (right lane) and I think the wreck would have been completely avoided if I had ABS, because then my car would not have locked up, and stopped in a straight line, and if I stopped in a straight line I would not have hit her because she was turning left in front of me and I hit the rear quarter of her car.
These Si's are going out left and right, ever noticed they get wrecked alot?? (and don't say cause stunnas drive 'em, mine wasn't my fault)

sorry to hear about the wreck, when mine was stolen and then wrecked it took like a week to settle things then another 2 weeks to fix the damage (new tranny bc the theives couldnt even drive....bastards, not to mention body work and wheels)

if it gets salvaged buy it bak for cheap then u can either fix it ur self or buy hatch and u have a instant project car all fixed up with all the si stuff and stuff u bought for ur si it will be better than ur si in my opinion

No i dont know if its totalled yet. as far as i am in the process, i had the car moved today because where it was towed after the accident was not the kinda place i wanted touching my car. I went to the place my friend had his RSX fixed at. Very good guy. hopefully the car has a chance, it would be easiest cuz im away at skewl and i dont have the time to be buying cars and doing all this stuff....

nah i didnt get hurt, my neck was sore for like 2 days and i had a mark from the seatbelt on my collarbone. and the interior got kinda funked up from us hittin it, but we both walked away fine

 

The BAD news it looks totalled to me, I've seen SI's with less damage totalled at our Salavge Yard.

I hope youre OK though !.

how did you stop? slam on the brakes? downshift? modulate the brake pedal?

im just curious because i was on the freeway a few years back. the guy in front of me abruptly stopped. when i tried to downshift i couldnt because my shoe lace got stuck and i couldnt step on the clutch pedal (doh!).

i just slammed on the brakes. everything happened so fast i guess i just panicked. wheels locked and i slid much like what happened to you. right into the guy in front of me!! i scratched his bumper, but my whole front end was messed. couldnt even close the hood.

ABS dont make you stop faster. just no lock up. so if you had ABS, you be dead.
