i have an 1991 L3 si trans that has been sitting for about 3 years. had covered so as not to get dusty or dirty. ran great absolutely no problems when pulled. my current trans went out and im planning on using this. im just curious as to what should be done to it before i put it in. like do axle seals dry up and not seal right or anything. i know best thing would be to go in and replace bearings and such to be 100% sure but im short on time as im leaving for college in a week and a half. and since it ran great when pulled i know bearings were good. unless time unused can ruin them. sorry i dont know much about transmissions or what can happen to them after sitting for a while.
thanks in advance for any help.

It would be wise to swap the axle seals. Make sure the Clutch and Flywheel are in good shape. I would do a mtf flush after about 500 miles or so as well.

I personally would crack it open and look at the bearings. If it sat for a while and moved the bearings could have fretting damage, not likely, but I've replaced a lot of part time electric motors that have vibration/fretting damage, simply because the rollers vibrated the oil from under the *****/rollers. Its cheaper to do it now than have to pull it out and do it later, costing you time. All it will cost you is the seals, and some high torque sealer for the case half, nothing more.
