JDM Problem
I picked up a 1990 Accord for next to nothing. The previous owner installed a JDM F22B DOHC(non-vtec I assume) engine. The timing belt broke, so I am assuming there is valve damage. MY question is this, what is the cheapest way to get this puppy running? I know very little about the JDM side of these cars, but I know it is very popular. I am not looking for performance at all, only getting it running cheaply. Heres some pictures

yes it is a prelude engine i cant remember what year but i know it came in the aws prelude the one that had the digital dash i had a homie who had one of these. the only cheap way is to do a leakdown test and hope no valves are bent. after you figure that out put it on time and slap on a timing belt. then after that do a compression test. looks like the owner didnt maintain it well. theres oil all over that engine usually caused by blow by
There was a DOHC nonvtec F22 in the CD5 (94-97 Accord), the F22B1 & F22B2.
Unless you plan on doing the timing belt yourself, your best bet would be to find a tuner shop in your area who would have more knowledge of JDM motors. Your local Firestone or whatever won't know what their working with. Or get in contact with the guy you bought the car from and ask him.

Both the F22B1 and B2 are not DOHC, mine is a F22B. It is a JDM, and while similer to the H23A, it is slightly different. I just have to figure out a few things, such as which head gasket it uses, which timing set it uses, which valves it uses, in case I have to replace them.
But, I may just yank the stupid thing out and drop in a F22a1, which is what the car originally came with. It will probably be cheaper. As I found one for $350, with a 90 day warranty. I have a feeling that it will cost me more to repair the H22B.
I wonder though if this H22b, which is rated at 166HP, is worth anything in its present state? Would be nice to get some of my investment back.

The F22B DOHC was only ever used in the JDM Prelude. It was never sold in any USDM vehicle. The F22B engines that you find being sold by JDM importers can be one of three.
F22B - SOHC VTEC
F22B - SOHC Non VTEC
F22B - DOHC Non VTEC
In Japan they do not use the 5th and 6th characters in their engine codes.
As for the gaskets and parts required, the F22B head is similar to the H23. However it has 85mm combustion chambers. Therefore you would use an F22A/B head gasket. The block is an F22 block, so water pump, oil pump and tensioner/pulleys are all for the F22A/B. The best fitting timing belt is from a 1988 Dodge Caravan 2.5L engine. The balance shaft belt is the same as the F22A/B.
Easiest way to replace any of the unknown parts would be to measure them.

OP, before you assume it has bent valves, I'd do a compression test to see what the PSI's are. You might luck out and won't have to do nothing but replace the broken belt and do the water pump.
