NO it's not ABSOLUTELY necessary.

You want your wheels leaning inward like a stunna?

You want incredibly fast and un-even tread wear?

You want to hurt your performance?

Your call man.

This is coming from a man with a 3" and no camber kit.

actually camber helps cornering, just affects your wallet when you have to replace those tires. if you drop your car more than 1.5" you will need some type of camber kit.

If my car is dropped around 1.5 inches, can i do without a camber kit and have the shop fix my camber manually?

on my lude i have about a 2.5" drop with h&r's with tokico 5-way adjusts.....and im running -1.4 degrees of camber up front and -1.8 in the back. my tires still wear good, the only thing diff is i have 4ws which the rear camber is slightly adjustable with that, and i had them adjust it out as good as posible when i got it aligned

do you need a camber kit??? well my friend, my prelude brotha, my fellow human being, it depends on how much you are going to drop your car. I sense a story coming along, a story that goes like this:

Awhile back, in a place in the west, a place called Arizona, there was a 1998 prelude that needed to be lowered. Ahhh yes, I remember it like it was yesterday, the day when I ordered my h&r race springs. I finally put these son of a mothers in and it was off the heezy. Well, by the looks of my tires, I knew I needed a camber kit baddd. The tires were like / \ I'm poor because I just bought some springs and put off getting a camber kit until later on. After awhile of the lowered persona, a friend and I took a trip up north to go fishing. A fateful trip it was, a deadly trip it could've been. Well on this journey, I took the purlude (prelude) and we reached speeds of up to 110-120 on turns and such. We finally arrived at the lake and went fishing. When all was said and done, the count was me with 0 fish my friend w/ 1. We made our way back to my car were astonished by seeing my right front tire being flat I got the jack outta the back and jacked it up to change it out. This is where my ********* shrivelled my fellow preluders, I take the tire off and observe it, the whole inner side was worn down completely and there were gashes in it. Then it hits me, "**** man i knew the camber kit was somthing i shoulda gotten!!!" I put the donut back on and observe the other side. ****!!! its almost busted too, so i exchange the front and back tires and we are on our adventure home. OMG was that ride home scary as hell. It was like a 150-200 mile journey (?). Finally got home. It's funny cuz on the way home, we saw atleast 10+ peeps on the side of the road w/ flats. Went to the shop to get a camber kit asap and they ripped me off for 159 for the front only and they didn't even sell me the kit that'll adjust enuff either Oh well, i had to get it. Had it installed and adjusted and here i am today.

Soooo.... moral of the story. You lower it w/ camber kit you are smart. You lower it w/o camber kit you die. You read this whole story, you smart. I wrote this whole story, I'm bored.

My car is dropped 30mm. I run with about -1 degree in front and about -1.3 in the rear.
I will not go back to 0 degrees camber.
Therefore, I have no need for a camber kit.
Drop the car, get an alignment (check), then decide.

Excellent response Max. ANY DROP over 1" will cause the Camber to go negative from the STOCK setting. If you like buying tires and creating more landfill-fine. If, like me you want great handling andless landfill then get the car aligned, and then you can determine what if any Camber correction you need/want.
The rule is real simple folks: For each 1" of drop the Camber will go negative by ~0.75 degrees from where it was before you started. With that said-you may not need kits if you drop a maximum of 1", but you won't know if you are out of range without an alignment. This from Specialty Products, Ingalls Engineering, and my own experience (Neuspeed Sport and Koni "yellow).

i believe stock is 0 up front, and 1 degree in back......not sure exactly, but I know for sure 0 up front, and something in back.

anyways, i was on neuspeed sports 1.7" front 1.5" back drop....i had alignment for toe, but never got a camber kit...my tires were worn to the belts after 1.5 yrs.

i say get a camber kit....do it right

For those without kits-I say this again-more landfill and you pay for that privelege in various ways. The Camber on a 5th gen is Front: 0 +/- 1 degree; I'm set to -0.4/Rear: on the machine should be within a range of +0.3 to -1.8 degrees and set around -0.6. Tire wear with these setting is minimal and handling is just fine.
For the person with the lifetime Toe-In adjustment good luck as you will need tires sooner than those of us with kits. For the person with the WRONG Offset-too bad for you. Been there and got myself a set of +42 Offset rims and they clear just fine. +45 would be much better. I also run stock size rims and tires, but if you properly PLUS size your setup-you should not have any rubbing. The only reason for this is if you lower too much or do not remove the little nubs on the back bumper cover near the retaining bolt. I have enough clearance both front and rear on my car with only that little mod.
