electrical system help PLEASE

In the test to check if the ELD is bad to fix a code 20 it says to check for approximately 5v if not present check the alternator control system, what the hell is that? any insight greatly appreciated

eld? use a low volt checker and check for 5v if its not there your alternator is fizzucked yO! or something...
