I have an 1984 Honda Nighthawk S (CB700SC) and I recently did an oil change with a new torque wrench and something went wrong. While I have changed the oil in the bike many times, it was either that I set the torque wrench up incorrectly, or I'm just an idiot, but it started to leak oil as I tightened it. I immediately loosened the plug completely, and out with the drain plug came what appears to be an aluminum washer. I looked through the manual but couldn't figure out what this part was, and looking at THIS diagram, I'm guessing it is the part labeled 20. Would anyone be able to confirm this? I've attached images of the piece.

It does look like the crush washer that is used with the drain plug. 50cents should get you a new one at the dealership. They should be replaced every oil change.

 

That sir, is one used and abused drain bolt washer.

Local auto parts store like ^^ said. 12mm drain plug washer and it'll cost you a whole dollar plus sales tax!

Yes, it turns out it isn't the washer. The drain plug still threads into the block. I went up to a shop and we ordered what was their best guess on what the part was. I'll update once I get it if it works out.

So the bike shop ordered me a rubber O-ring. The convex aluminum ring is the piece I'm trying to replace, the washer at the top is the drain plug washer, and then the O-ring is on the right. I could break out the drain plug if that would give more context of how this piece came out of the block. Any thoughts guys?

I am guessing your new TQ wrench is the kind that clicks when you hit the specified TQ. Set the TQ wrench to 10-20 ft lbs and try it on something like a lug nut on a car. Does the wrench work right?

If your shop can't tell the difference between rubber and aluminum or between black and silver - FIND ANOTHER SHOP.
