Default Ys1 final drive swap ?????

I don't know much about transmissions but how hard or is it possible to put a y1/s1 final drive into a ys1? I need to get off the corners with some more rpms in my circle track car. I'm right around 4000 to like 4200 and my vetc won't engage till mid straightaway. Should I even mess with it or just turn the vtec down to like 4000 rpms? Let me know what ya think.

We always encourage people to swap final drives as a matched set. Unfortunately the Y1/S1 final drive sets are not interchangeable with the YS-1 transmissions.

If your car is dynotuned properly..lowering your vtec setting will change everything and does not necessarily mean you are making optimal power. It can turn out to be a negative thing despite what the butt dyno may say. Find a tuner that knows his stuff and can tune your vehicle for your conditions. The YS-1 has a lot more options as far as final drives go. So I would work with that trans and play around with your gearing till you get it right where you want it. Gearing is trial and error much like tuning and engine building...you may not get it right the first time out.

What you're wanting won't work. You will need to use a FD from a 92-01 LS, B16 or B17 GSR. What size tires do you have to run, where does VTEC engage, and which YS1 trans do you have (LS or GSR)?

my vtec hits at like 4800 or somewhere in there, it comes in at around half straight away if i don't ride the brake around the corner. I cam on 195/60 r14 that's been the best for me so far. I was going to try and get 2nd gear and do 15's but i blew my head gasket this week at practice so i'm working on that now
