Default 1991 dx sedan build, will be slow but good!

Ok, I found a 91 dx on Craigslist. So I email the guy and ended up getting the car for 600 bucks. I currently have a 90 si I was building, but with a 2yr old it's a little too small so the si is going to be parted out and sold or sold complete whatever is easier. At this moment I have a 90 si, 89 sedan dx (dd), and the new 91 sedan dx.

Here are some of the spec
1991 DX 240k
California car, no rust any were
Rio red (I think)
DpfI to mpfi swap
Auto to manual swap
B16a2
S1 cable trans

When I got the car it didn't run, and I didn't even see it I. Person because I live in Chicago aNd the car was in southern Illinois (Carbondale). I sent a friend money and had it towed to my parents. I just got down here and check it out. Any way I tried cranking it no start. Took off the distributor off the ears were broken off. I brought a good one and still no start. New plugs, swapped ecus, Main relay, and checked all the wiring. The wirin is kinda hacked but correct. Pored gas In the intake and it started up ran like ****. Pulled the valve cover and found that the intake cam slipped time. Also found the crank slipped time with the cams up the crank was almost to the timing marks. Adjusted thin to tdc and reinstalled the belt. Ran great, but when you come to the VTEC crossover no VTEC. Oh well that not that big of a deal.

After a wash and wax

At this time I have built the b16 that was going in my hatch now it's going into the sedan
B16a
Eagle h beam arp bolts
JE forged 10.0:1 pistons 81.5
Chevite race bearings/ thrust
all new Honda parts Like water pump to oil pan bolts
Morso oil pan

Head
B16a
GsR cams at this time maybe something different
Supertech 1 mm oversize valves both sides
Supertech springs
Supertech seals and stems
Will be flow benched and all
The head is not done I still need the machine work and them sent off to get flowed.
More to come

I will share some more pictures
The block is done

I have the trans pulled apart, I need to order syncros, bearings and an LSD

Cleaned the main part of the case still need to finish it though

I should be getting the valve springs/retainers soon to also finish the head

I was building the engine for a turbo, but I may change my mind. I just want a clean daily, because I like I have power steering and a/c. I also have a 2yr old and a/c during the hot months is priority for me.

There are still a couple of questions on products, like traction bars which one has the best amount of clearance. I am going to be doig a spring drop and shocks maybe skunk2. I had them on my DA and loved them.

Thanks for looking

Will I repaired the vents lately. I found all the pieces behind the vents, and in the floor. I remelted the plastic back together on the center and passenger vents.

This is what it looked like before I fixed them.
I didn't take a picture after yet I still need to clean the inside first.
Not much else has happened in the past couple of days. One of the main problems is I am 6 hours away from the car, which sucks! I have to take the train from Chicago to southern Illinois, or ride with someone so I hope to have the car here in a month. Untill them I will be working on the engine and trans and take the Si apart for most of the suspension, arms, rear discs. I have all energy suspension bushing and skunk2 upper A arms.

More to come I hope soon!

Ok, I know not much is going on in my thread, but there's more!

So on labor day I will be driving it to Chicago for my parents house with is about 7 hour away in Carbondale Illinois. Before I do this I will be installing a neKw t-belt and w/p thermostat and axles. Then I will have the car with me to work on.

Also I have one question. I have not seen a real Anwser or it. So I am doing a obd-1 swap. Do I need o the harness back to original pin locations as in the wire for VTEC and knock? Or do I leave it alone and just plug in the jumper harness.

Ok since last time I have posted I have done a couple of things. I guess the first thing was going over the car. I found that for the most part it was in great shape. I changed the fluids, the previous owner had gear oil in the trans. All gears were grinding put Honda mtf in and now only 3rd and 4th do.

About two weeks ago I lowered and preformed an alignment at work. (I am a Honda tech) turned out ok, in need of a rear camber kit. Cleaned the bay

Yesterday I buffed the car and cleaned up the moldings and bumpers. The passenger fender and passenger front door the clear is bad. Tried my best to clean it up it just needs repainting.

Today I installed rear discs with new Honda pads, hardware and fluid. Also lowered some more. Will have updated photos tomorrow

So not much new these days but i installed my Si font lip. Trying to solve all the little problem is the previous hacks did.

So i came across a problem today when i was attempting to change the front pads.
I had good front pads from the Si. When pulling the front wheels I noticed the calipers where different, the Si/DX front calipers have the one bolt at the bottom and the pivot pin in the top. These did not they had a 12mm bolt top and bottom. They more resembled the EX calipers. I started to look for stampings on the knuckles, then I saw one side has a wss (wheels speed sensor) with the wires cut on a non-abs car. The other side did not even have threads where the sensor is located. So I have two different knuckles I am try to see whats going on. I believe they are DA hubs or one is, they have totally different stampings one is something like Z36 and the I am not sure. I will find out the correct stamping tomorrow. I also could not find the stampings on the calipers or brackets (I think they are aftermarket).

Also the knuckle with the wss the axle inner boot is ripped and having vibration problem. To note; I had these axles and intermediate shaft in my Si with a B16a swap and had no problems at all. I have been fighting this axle problem for while. I first was think it was the PLACE RACING mounts in the car holding engine/trans incorrectly. I have not put my haSport mounts in yet. Also after i put the axles in and drove to Chicago about 2 hours into it i stopped for gas and a visual check under the hood and saw the axle grease slung already.

The more and more I get into this car the more angry I get at the people involved in doing all the work that the previous owner had do the work. They hacked jobbed the install, wiring, linkage, auto-manual swap and other stuff. At least the car is hella rust and damage clean.

Some of the problems:
Knuckle ID's/ axle problem (most important right now because i need to do my brakes)

Reverse lights not wired

Neutral kill switch not wired

Wrong/cheap shift linkage

O2 sensor not wired correctly (never wired the secondary O2 or installed)

After an hour driving on the highway the car bogs (probably tied to above problem)

Idles cold around 1000 warm idle 1700 (replaced with known good iacv/fitv no intake eaks to cause that high of an idle.

P/s rack no pump.

Vtec is weak there is no sound difference at cross over

The block is b16a2 w/obd0 IM and a throttle body with a map sensor attached and not used, using d15 map in firewall

These are the main things at this time. I have searched many hour and read a lot about all problems i am having. I anyone have any light that would help please do.

Hey guys! I thought I would update the photos with the lip and a engine bay shot.

Also I did more investigation on the knuckles, they ended up being DA's. KR-14 and KL-14.

Just to inform everyone my build is no longer happening. The reason is on this past Tuesday night someone stole my car from apartment complex. Very annoying that some one would do this to such an awesome car and a car that I pt blood and sweat into! If anyone hears or sees anything contact me on here or the Waukegan, Illinois police. I have full coverage on it but i want it car back or at the least the person/persons charged with grand theft auto. Northern Illinois about an hour north of Chicago, and 20 minutes south of Wisconsin.

Thanks for all the good and nice things that where said about me and the car

Travis.....
