First turbo build-Need Suggestions/opinions
Heys Guys,
This is my first Turbo build and i want to do it right the first time. My motor is a b18c1 with acl bearings, block guard, arp head studs, p30 pistons and type r cams and a shunk 2 mani. Its a all motor build but just wanting to change it up a bit. I really dont want to do any motor work, just looking to bolt on the turbo set up and run as is.
So Far i have the entire turbo set up, 450cc injectors, greddy t25 turbo, all pipeing, no name intercooler..Pretty much everything.
Before i put it in, i wanna upgrade my turbo..im trying to reach 300 to 350 hp daily driving, so it needs to be reliable....
Any suggestions and the turbo cant break the bank lol still in college

Ditch the block guard...
P.S. Put the hole project on hold until you finish collage. It won't go to plan I can assure you... You'll spend a hell of a lot more than planned....

i also have 550cc injectors, and i figured i wont be able to get that number with my set up but what turbo could i have the best possible chance. I was was looking at a holset turbo, bad idea good idea?
figured that as well but getting a masters degree so ill be here for a while lol and yea im looking more and more into it and yep, already passed my estimated budget
Holsets can work, but require different downpipe flanges and modifications than most quality "kit" companies you're going to need. A GSR using a nice GT3251B, T3/T4 50lbs/min 50 "trim", or even 57 "Trim (51lbs/min) will do the job. If something happens in the future while doing your graduate program, it can be repaired with relative less expense than a Holset (most just get another one, then pay for retuning, because its hard to find exactly the same model you had before.

ill take what you said under consideration, but i was looking at the holset turbo, hy35 and it fits my pfab manifold, will need a different downpipe tho. its a really good turbo for the money and what i could possible put down on the road.

Holset turbos are the best turbos for the price in my opinion. I found one with no shaft play, 100,000 miles on it for 180 shipped to my location. Should be mounting everything next week!
Thanks again for the info and any other suggestions can help too
Ok man, thanks but i think im going to stick with the hy35 turbo. it fits on my pfab manifold and i have couple of friends that can make a custom down pipe and i will just put it up to a 3in exhaust system. im going to be putting 550cc injectors instead of 450cc.

I give it 2 weeks before the engine is blown.
theres ALOT more to it then just slapping on some injectors and turbo. do some research and build it right before you blow it up and have no engine.
lol im not in a rush at all, and i no theres more then just slapping it on and running it that way..
Sure you do. Your first post screams that you've got it under control. Seriously, if you did you would not needed to have posted.
350hp. I've got a T25. That won't work. Well I was thinking Holset. I have 450 injectors. That won't work. Well I have 550s.

I'd agree and urge you to ditch the block guard. When engines go, it's usually not near the top of the cylinder anyway. All that guard will do is restrict coolant flow and create hot spots, which can cause more issues like detonation.
and does 300-350hp mean crank hp? that will put you around 260-300 whp.
If you want 300-350whp, then your looking at 375-415 crank hp area. which is a whole new build to be reliable.

300-350 crank hp....ima start it slow tho, with low boost. get a safe tune in order for it to be reliable and just keep it safe until i can rebuild my block to be able to handle all this power
I personally think you should really consider putting your focus in your course and not the car. It's not as simple and as straight forward as many like think and when something does go wrong you'll be totally distracted from what matters. It's upto you though, something's are more important than others in life and are worth putting on hold... that's the way I see it anyway...
