What would cause this?

there is a small rubber bump stop at the top of the brake pedal that the switch hits to turn off the brake ligts. make sure its still there and hasn't broken off

Or grab some super glue and a penny and super glue it to the metal bracket and never have to worry about that damn rubber ripping apart again.

The problem is more than likely the actual rubber stopper not the button on the switch

The rubber stopped was the problem. Wasnt there. anywhere to get that? Would like to get the penny outa my pedal asap lol.
