Thinking About Buying A Honda Civic Si
Hi all! I need to purchase a better car and so I am here asking for your help regarding what I should get. Currently I am driving a 1991 2D 5-Speed Accord and Honda’s reliability is the best! Recently where I live some guy bought a yellow car and been trying mess with me. One afternoon on an open straight road that was near my home, that guy came out from nowhere and pulled up next to me. He revved and so I knew he wanted to race me. I figure since the Accord has good power, I might be able to take him or maybe even be close to him but it doesn’t hurt to try. As we started to race, his took off really fast and sure enough, beat me left behind a view with the name plate “Acura In-tegra Type R” with the R in red or something like that with a tall wing (at least I have a moonroof!). I really dislike this guy cause he thinks he is all that. I’m due for a new car anyway so that is why I am here now.
I have a cousin who has a 2003 Honda Civic Si for sale and I was told the Si is the fastest Honda Civic. It has the latest VTEC tech-nology and is supposed to beat this Acura Integra or at least hang even since that Acura has an older VTEC engine. I was told that once I hit VTEC, at 4K RPM, I suppose to start seeing him in my rear view and slowly pull away once I reach the 7K RPM ever gears. This interested me because the car is spacious and I am sure it’s reliable just like my Accord. I want to beat this guy so bad and my cousin’s car looks bad *** too. It is lowered with springs to help bet-ter aerodynamic, a homemade exhaust tip that allows better airflow and a homemade intake that absorbs more air. So do you guys think I should buy the Civic Si? I’m planning to pick it up this weekend and will show this guy some Honda Power! I will make him bow to me like this
Thanks,
Jake

How could it be slow? It's 12 years newer than my car and it has VTEC which my car doesn't have. So are you saying it is slow in general? Should I increase the exhaust tip size to increase airflow? I heard that Honda's VTEc respond better with better airflow inthe exhaust system. All I care about is beat that guy while having a car that is better than my Accord and maintain Honda's reliability. The latest VTEC technology in this Si interest me and if I beat that Acura in a 1/4 mile with it, that is enough for me.
It's heavier and makes less power with a longer geared tranny. You can figure it out from there.
If you like the car get it. If you're buying it for the sole purpose of beating this guy you'll be disappointed.

i have a 04 ep3, they can be made quick with $$$ but Id recommend looking at like a 99 si, but the ep3's are damn comfortable, nimble as hell, I stay VERY competative on the auto cross track, I would recommend it if you have about 2,000$ for bolt ons.
Doood, even if the Civic Si is heavier and makes less power, don't I have the latest VTEC technology and 7K RPM? Would a Pepboy Short Ram Intake and 3" diameter add-on exhaust tip make my car faster? I was the the Integra discontinued since 2001 but the model started since 1994. I don't see how can I my car be slower than the Integra when it is a newer model with the latest technology and VTEC.
I don't think I want to spend that kind of money to make a car go fast. I was told it will be faster than the Acura Integra but thanks for the suggestion.

The problem is that they stuck the base model K20 in the SI. So it does have the newer i-vtec setup but it is only VTEC on the INTAKE came.... the DC5 K20 is vtec on both INTAKE and EXHAUST just like the 99 SI B16 or the Integra B18
So yes newer engine style... but shitty base model of it (no offense to EP3 guys)

like spaz said, it has the weak version of vtec. the itr you're trying to beat also has vtec, minus vtc, makes 35 more hp, revs to 8200, has a tranny meant meant for acceleration, and weighs a few hundred pounds less. have you even bothered to look up the specs on either?
if you're not willing to throw lots of money into this thing find a new hobby.
now you just seem to be coming off as a troll

I had 2002 Civic Si that I bought new for $14,500 (these cars didn't sell when new) that was quick enough but it's not a drag race car. I liked it's versatility. It seats 4 people, goes when fast when you need to and has tons of space with seats folded down. I once fit a 40 gallon water heater in the car.
It was reliable enough but I could never get the right combination of ride and handling. combination of After 4 years of ownership I sold it for $8500 to buy a 5th Gen Prelude SH to get a better combination of ride and handling. I'm in the middle of selling my 2nd SH to buy a Subaru BRZ.
The EP3 styling is polarizing, 60% of people hate it and 40% like it. Definitely stands out.
Anyways buy because it's a cool car and because your cousin won't screw you over not because it's super fast.
