Default Bought a Troublesome 2004 EX-L: URGENT

Today I bought a 2004 EX-L with 174,000 miles on the odometer. I took it for a test drive and everything was fine. However while I was driving in high gear on the way home (about three miles later), the car started making sharp loud grinding noises every time I stepped on the accelerator. I talked to the previous owner about it, and he denied having any knowledge of the noises. I cannot understand this, since there is no way he wouldn't know about it. It's not like I broke the car on the way home. When I got home, I put the OBDII reader into the car, and there weren't any DTC problems. I'd like to know what problem the car has (again, sharp grinding noises every time the accelerator is pressed). I'm either going to return the car or negotiate with the previous owner to pay for expenses to fix the car. I need to know what the problem is though--ASAP. Quick responses would be greatly appreciated! Thank you all! -Michael
